Kinda disappointed, hoped there would be a better description and pictures. The history and visual experience in photos would be enterraining.
 
It looks like it still has the door panels inside.

Just a question, at what point did NASCAR stop being actual cars with stock body and frame? Was it a definite cut off or a slow evolution?
 
I believe this is a recreation. Word is the original was buried in a hole on the Petty properties which was the standard practice for all retired Petty race cars of the era.
 
I believe that, who saved anything back in them days, especially a race car that might have a Secret to tell.
 
I think the OEM sheet metal bodies lasted up into the earlier '70s, maybe later. Not sure when the transition from OEM suspension components evolved into the later "trailing arm" rear suspension, though.

Fully documented race cars are rare.
Vintage photos showing details that are still there today are priceless.
Not many out there that are the REAL DEAL!!!
 
Generation 1: 1948-66
The characteristics of the car were simple. A strictly stock frame and body; doors strapped or bolted shut and seat belts required; and heavy-duty rear axles required to keep cars from flipping during the race.

Generation 2: 1967-80
The first overall modification of the car came for the 1967 season. The car had a stock body with a modified frame and modified chassis. Holman-Moody, Banjo Matthews and Hutchenson-Pagan built chassis for the teams.

Generation 3: 1981-91
In 1981 came a more race-centered series of vehicles. The wheel base was reduced to 110 inches; and NASCAR downsized cars to better resemble cars on the showroom floor, though body panels were still purchased through the manufacturers.

Generation 4: 1992-2006
NASCAR altered the look of the race car significantly in this generation. It had a highly modified body, leading teams to spend hours in the wind tunnel to gain an aero edge. The bumpers, nose and tail were composed of molded fiberglass based off production counterparts.

Generation 5: 2007-2012
The so-called Car of Tomorrow introduced a new era in car safety. It featured a common body and chassis for all manufacturers designed to reduce the need for track-specific race cars. It included a front splitter and rear wing to offer teams aero adjustment options.

Generation 6: 2013
The Generation 6 car marks the return of the showroom look, as seen with this 2013 Ford Fusion. Manufacturer-unique body panels are placed on the existing chassis. Enhanced body designs are built to more closely resemble the cars found in showrooms across the US and the design aims to put the stock back into stock-car racing.

So this is likely a tribute car that didn't sell and won't sell at the price since it is not a real bonifided car that Richard drove?:stop:
Is the only "Real Deal" here that it is in fact a car.
It happens to look like the original car Richard drove so it is the real deal?

Can someone explain this to me then how this seller can claim it is real if they offer no direct way to confirm that this is the car?

Or would it be like the Canadian Avro Arrow that flew out of the air force base to hide in a barn somewhere in the world?
 
This is my problem with any and all "tribute" cars. Just call them clones and quit pretending/trying to pass them off as something they never were. $150K hemi tributes etc. If its a 6 cylinder car that what it always is. No matter how much is invested in making them what they're not, they're not ever worth the $.
 
The listing does say Fully Documented, no word of it being a clone/tribute/fake...
The Dallas Car Sharks car looks to be a different car, I see multiple differences.

I dunno, but the rear glass kinda looks like the "Sky-Hi" rear window that was standard on Fury 2-dr H/Ts, but optional on Belvederes. If it indeed is the big window, it is not the car The King raced back in '60. All the photos and movies show a car with the smaller back window.

Just by looking at the door handle will tell you this is not the real deal....on the true car the door handles were removed and plated over
