the new old Montgomery Ward Circa 1970’s seat cover kit showed up today. Time to evict the Mexican blankets...

Set up everything on the work table and started pulling the seats. They actually included hog rings Incase you were installing these for good. They seem to be pretty good quality and way heavier than I expected.

Pulled off the headrests, one needed a little extra encouraging. I then pulled the rear seat speaker & chrome trim and stowed it away for later. It wouldn’t really work with the generic seat covers. After test fitting it all went on pretty easy. I cut off some of the razor sharp old seat material wherever it seemed like it was going to poke right thru the new covers. Funny thing was that the seat foam had the date stamped on it.

Added the headrests and it looked a bit better. The car is a split bench w armrest so the cover fit kind of wonky. I added some foam and stowed the armrest and it works ok for now.

I was pretty set on white seats but always thought red w blue would look cool. When these got thrown up on the site I figured I could test drive blue on the cheap with no commitment. Turned out to be a right move. I’m going to order blue from legendary and can now do it without worrying i might not like the look. These will do for now and are good enough that I can take my time.

I can almost see myself back in time with these covers proudly installed in 1972 saying “ boy I thought they woulda fit better...”.

Thanks for making them available captin71newport they were exactly what I needed. And they are way better than what I had.

Monkey wards. LOL. That’s what my wife said when she saw the old box.

MW also had a good bit of "farm stuff", too. Like pressure tanks for the water wells on the farm. Sears was the more upscale of the two. Not to forget Spiegel's or similar. Order a new engine from Sears or Wards, too! Some of the '60s Bonneville-racer Studebakers had Sears Allstate tires on them. So MANY department stores, each with their own character and merchandise orientations.

Western Auto and White's Auto had seat covers in the late '50s and such. Went right over the factory covers when they got worn. Most were quite durable. AND, in some stores, installation was available, too!

No worries that the seat covers didn't match the door panels.

Seats look good, put it out in the sun for a while to get them nice and warm. It should help with the wrinkles.

Go easy on ‘em, they have been rolled up in a box for forty some years. I have trouble getting up off the couch after ten or fifteen minutes LoL.

And Thanks it’s out in the sun “baking” right now.

I looked at my reply I meant to say, it should help with the wrinkles. I see it said I should help with the wrinkles. Whoops. I went and edited my post

I didn’t notice but I knew what you meant, thanks man LOL !!!

By the way. I think they might want to stay wrinkled. Been out cooking since your observation. Might be because they’re installed so loose. I just figured at their age if I pulled em too tight the old old thread might fail. Well we’ll see. They just have to last until I can buy my real covers from legendary.

I was going to buy rear seat first then the front to spread out the pain but with all the color match posts on the other sites I could end up with mismatched seats that way. Food for thought.
