Hi,

I am looking for a replacement thermostatic coil for the exhaust heat riser on my 1967 383 Commando with dual exhaust. I'm not sure if these are easily available and sold new. Anyone with information, or a good clean functioning coil, please let me know.

I just ordered one from Dynamic Renovation, $20 + $7 to ship, I'll see how it goes.
Very good. I just ordered mine from them too, same price.. arrives tomorrow. Dealt with Neil the owner, great mopar guy and good to talk with about any of this stuff. He also does complete builds and restorations.
 
I received the part from Dynamic Renovation, no problem and nice product. Went to install and the shaft broke at the split. Only alternative is to pull the manifold and replace the whole thing, so that's that, (for now). That's not happening until the motor is out and on a stand. Wouldn't want to try taking out those 50 year old bolts without being able use alternative methods or, last resort, drill them out.

There's been a late 70's small block NOS heat riser listed up on CL for awhile now.
Seller seems to have many other NOS parts, maybe worth a contact.

BTW I've never tried to fix individual parts of a heat rise whether it was loose/frozen, spring gone & rattling I just got the complete kit from Mopar and changed it out.
You do need access to a stick welder for the tack.

If you can find it - mid 60s are nearly unobtanium... I was lucky - I stockpiled a couple about 20 years ago... this guy's just about the only game in town for the early ones.
 
Split because the new spring was too thick and you forced it??
Should be a loose fit in the shaft I would think.
 
Those splits can get knocked (and closed up), and even gently trying to pry it apart I can see it breaking... too bad.

I guess that's one reason a new on is included in complete kits.

I'm sure it would be a loose fit if everything was new. I tried using a feeler gage to clean the slot out, it didn't take much force, the shaft was rusty and 50 years old.
