Goodbye Laverne

Agreed...:(
Diabetes sucks...

Yup. Being misdiagnosed type II for three years before finding out you're actually type I with an a1c of 11.7 for the previous 2 years (at least) really sucks too. ..

like, "almost ended up like Laverne" sucks.

Wow! That's high. I hope it's under control now.

Mine is down to 5.3 now.

Mines been down as low as 6.3 ... It went from 11.7 to 9.4 to 6.3 and it's been up a bit lately but nothing like that.
I'm quite surprised that I can still see!

I just had cataract surgery literally last week. The other eye was done a month ago. What a quality of life improvement!!!

I know it's not the right thing to say but.....

The doctor was threatening to take my drivers license away or modify my license so I can only drive near my house during daylight hours. I was going to tell her that if my license is taken away....I'm still going to drive.

Laverne & Shirley's address while living in Milwaukee was on Knapp Street. although the show was filmed in California (and this is all make-believe) these row homes at the Trenkamp Flats Apartment building on Knapp St might’ve been the inspiration for the show.

Knapp Street would have been in walking distance to Schlitz/Schotz Brewery.

BTW, that building and thousands of others are made with "Cream City Brick" unique and only made in Milwaukee. That is the actual color of the bricks. Google cream city brick for a better explanation than I can give you. The cream city brick color has to do with the amount of clay in the Milwaukee soil.

Oddly, after three years of skyrocketed blood sugar levels, a trip to the eye doctor revealed 20/20 vision, no sign of cataract and very slight retinal hemorrhaging.
I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't see. I guess I'd still be able to play guitar? But everything else I love doing would be out the window.

I’m in the same boat being misdiagnosed this way as well
Going on Friday for my quarterly appointment
The doctor isn’t going to be happy with me
I’ve got something going on and my numbers have been averaging over 10 for the past 3 months

Sorry to hear, man. It's yet another daily battle.
I'm thankful after the life I've lead and the rather outrageous decisions I've made that this is all I have to deal with. It's still a PITA though.

We had that show in the UK ....was very enjoyable and the characters very likeable ....i hope all their dreams did come true!

I use to struggle with it and I was taking pills and insulin shots. Sometimes I couldn't get a blood sugar reading because my daily meter only went up to 500. That scared the crap out of me. With a reading over 500 the meter just reads HI.
..
I just radically changed what I eat and drank. I don't drink any alcohol. I quit drinking alcohol a few months after I returned from Iraq . I quit smoking too. I drank regular Coke and changed to Diet Coke. I still drink Diet Coke. The biggest thing i did was start reading labels on all foods and drinks before buying anything. These days it's a little tougher because I have to also restrict sodium, magnesium, phosphorus besides sugar. Nothing with vitamin K be sure of the blood thinners I'm taking. I haven't had to take an insulin shot in over a year and I'm only taking a small quantity of diabetic medicine once a day and im normally between 80-100 on my daily blood sugar readings. So it can become very manageable if you modify what your intake is on a daily basis. It doesn't happen overnite but if you work at it it will eventually get better. Sometimes my sugar readings get below 60 and I'll have to eat something to spike it a little. I eat a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits and avoid all processed juices. I drink regular coffee....black every day. Coffee black is probably my one vice. My heart and blood thinners are in good shape and I drink 2 full cups of coffee every day with no ill effects.

I hope things get better down the road for you guys!!!

Have you looked into newer blood thinning drugs, such as dabigatran (Pradaxa) and rivaroxaban (Xarelto)....?
Having a double edge sword by having extremely high blood pressure and Atrial Fibrillation I use Pradaxa and
also am on lisinopril.... The use of Pradaxa makes vitamin K a non-issue.... Mebbe ask your doctor about it..
