From my reading,
Heads cracked on the 91 units, due to cast iron plugs used in water jakets instead of aluminium. Per allpar.
Premature timing belt wear was another problem due improper tensioning.

with a lotus designed head it produces 224hp out of the box, with greater potential

Were these problems ever addressed by Mopar? How many years did they make this engine?

Interesting read . 1989 the birth of VTEC Honda engines.
By comparison the naturaly asperated Chrysler 2.2 with higher compression in the GLH [non turbo] was 110 hp. This was 50 hp per litre. The NA Honda Vtec was making 100 hp per litre, quite the achievement. The kids would add turbos to these .

How Honda unlocked the power of small engines with VTEC

Thanks for the info on the Turbo III . Interesting.
Yes fwdperformance.com and turbosunleashed.com I have dealt with for many years. fwd performance did my computer calibration. Both are great depending what you need.

For old cars, they were fun in their day. Nothing compared to whats being produced today. I'm just an old guy who likes to have a fast machine on the cheap as an option to drive. The SRT4 is is a neat retro fit into these old machines. Of course the purists may have other opinions.

Yes these cars were the true successors to the earlier 80's Chrysler turbo cars I feel. Those things could rip. 9 ,10 11 ,12, second 1/4 miles depending on your wallet.
Then again there is a 9.9 second 5 speed Getrag manual Omni with an 8 valve motor on youtube.
All of these cars were cheap. No snobbery here believe me. This was a tough time for Chrysler. These are not great cars like some Chryslers in the past but thet were/are still fun. I go to car cruises and all the younger kids look at my Omni. It's their version of the 55 Chevy. It is an antique.

here's my 1992 Daytona IROC R/T with 18K miles on it. 1992-93 for the Daytonas with the T3 engine...about 500 made.

All T3 motors were DOHC, 16 valve, turbo intercooled and only came with a 5 speed. That engine alone was about an 8,000.00 option so not many were sold.

Mine has the original tires and is unmodified.

These were the 1st engine Chrysler made w/o a distributor.

The head/valve train parts were built by Lotus in England.

It is for sale.

All came with a leather wrapped steering wheel, a leather gearshift knob,160 MPH speedo, turbo gauge, unidirectional wheels.

It has these Factory Options:

Tonneau Cover

Illuminated Left Visor & Illuminated Vanity Mirrors

Security Alarm System

Power Lumbar Seat/Recliner

8 Way Driver Seat

Cruise Control

Fog Lamps

ABS

Infinity Cassette with Slave CD Player

Only ever saw 1 of these brand new sitting on the showroom floor while doing a Dealer trade with a big metro store. At the time we laughed at it thinking who’d buy a four door stick when there were Daytona’s and Talons to be had....if only I knew then what I know now lol. Heads and timing belts were regular visitors to the service dept on these DOHC babies.
