Hey all, my girl has been giving me some issues and im hoping that someone on here might have some insight.

Ive had my newport parked in a garage for about two years now while I finished some other projects. I went to start her the other day and she wouldnt start. I dumped some new fuel and some stabilizer thinking that might be the issue. Still nothing. I took the HT wire off the distributor to test my spark from the coil. No spark. Went to napa, bought a new coil and no change.

Took the cap off the distributor and low and behold my pertronics ignitor had shorted out through the side of the module. I removed it, went back to napa, bought new point, a condenser and a ballast. Installed those, and still no spark from coil. Im at a loss to what the issue is.

Just checked and I think I welded my alligator clamps shut. Haha

There is definitely power to the coil.

If you have power to the coil from both the start and run leads, the most likely remaining issue is that the lead from the points to the coil is shorted or open, assuming that you have the points properly set. If you removed the ballast resistor as part of the electronic conversion, you will need to re-install it to use points, this will not keep the car from starting though.

Alright, spend some time in the garage today. Re-gapped my points to .022 and managed to get some spark from the coil, but it was weak and intermittent. So now im thinking the battery is shot and/or my points gap is to great. Not sure how far these ol girls like to be spread. Haha
