Did that plant produce any 1970 C-bodies? I have searched but cannot find any evidence that the answer is "yes".

I went there, (or to what was left of it), on a trip to Detroit Axle. It was just a warehouse then but had a few pictures up of when cars were assembled there.

Back in the early '70s Mother used part of that plant on the west side for lease car turn ins. Last I knew Detroit waz storing their Thanks Giving Floats in that same part of the plant for ah dollar ah year rental fee or some such nonsense.

Thanks Carmine, I was just reading what he wrote as he stopped into Lynch Rd Assembly Plant while visiting the Detroit Axle Plant. I am curious what he saw at Lynch Rd. I may misunderstood what he wrote.

Here are a few that I have saved over the years. I'd be interested in seeing some more if you guys have them.

Lynch Rd. handled the Company Car delivery program through the 80s 'till it moved out to Lapeer Rd.
There also was a lot with low mileage, clean lease turn-in cars for employees & families to purchase.
Our family bought a few of them during the 70s.

I remember going with my dad several times to pick up new cars, lease and PE.

OK, the reason I am asking is because I saw the code "1" in the broadcast sheet of a 1970 Monaco even though that car's VIN and fender tag both show that it was built in Belvidere, IL (code "D"). My understanding was that the "1" is for Lynch Road while the "D" is for Belvidere.

--> I am sure that someone on this board will have the answer to this riddle.

To be clear, based on the sheet, one would have DH23?01xxxxxx as opposed to DH23?0Dxxxxxx ; everything else matches between sheet and tag.

PS: The same "1" plant code appears (instead of a "D") in the broadcast sheet of a totaled 1970 Polara convertible that @Furyman parted out (DL27 G0D 144?85 should be the VIN, whereas the sheet suggests DL27 G01 144?85).

Lynch would be A wouldn’t it?

You are absolutely correct. Belvedere plant cars can show a 1 on the BS.

This falls under “goofy coding nuances that make you go huh?”
