Can anybody tell me if I should be using Dot3 or Dot4 for an original brake system.

Do we have a consensus on DOT3 and not DOT4

they will both work, but if you decide to ever go with dot 4, do not go back to dot 3

Could I use DOT4 if it previously had DOT3 without bleading the entire system. I would rather use DOT4 if i can.

yes, the big diff between the 2 types is that dot 4 can handle higher temps

The OEM fluid is DOT 3. If your going to clean and flush the system then DOT 5 fluid would be the perferred fluid. It is resistant to not only higher temps but won't absorb moisture either. Either DOT 4 or 5 should not be mixed with any other type of fluid.

I used DOT 5, (silicone) fluid in a 69 GTX and in 10 years and two lining replacements never had a hydraulic issue. It costs a bit more then 3 or 4.

Nice 60 Dart.... Love the forward look's

I use Dot 3 in all classic cars. I flush the brake fluid every 2 years in all my cars regardless if it has DOT 3, 4, or 5 brake fluid in them.
