Welcome, snow

Did you have snow tires on it back then?
Yup - Firestone mounted on the two spare rims I ordered with the car. Note the front wheels are Rally and the rear black with no caps. The car all so came equipped with posi so traction was never really a problem as long as it didn't get too much gas.

When I worked for a grocery wholesaler the trucks had to deliver to Flagstaff. It's at 7000 feet and gets really cold. When a driver called in saying his truck won't start the boss would tell them to go to the store and buy a metal garbage can and some charcoal and lighter fluid. Then he'd have them make a fire in the lid to warm under the engine or if the fuel was jelling he'd tell them to put it under the fuel tanks. Must have worked because they never got towed in from up there.

When I used to 4x4 in the bush in real cold weather, I carried an hibachi, some briquettes and a can of white gas. Unlike the truck warmed with burning cardboard, the idea was hot coals with no flames to destroy rubber plumbing. I also carried a tarp to cover the front end and keep the heat in and the wind out.

At -40 a dead truck is very serious to the point of being life threatening. A cold soaked engine is almost impossible to turn over. Also at that temp, our carbureted engines will flood just by "looking" at the gas pedal! The trick is to carry many fuel drums and never shut down an engine for longer than an hour.

Today, in Calgary, the temp is -30C with a -40C windchill. AMA calls are running over 24hrs wait time so it's a good day to stay home and enjoy a few brews!

With the Imperials 'snug as a bug' in safe storage the Imperial hauler is out on the road and loves the snow and winter fun.

We haven't had snow in at least a week, rain, sleet and freezing rain though. They had school shut down 2 weeks ago due to extreme cold and a couple days last week because of the freezing rain. Now they are complaining about having to make up days. I agree with the pic Bob posted, things have changed, people have gotten soft.
