Edelbrock CH4B, Weiand Action+, Edelbrock Performer ... for RB Big Block - input sought

Mine is a very old part number, I can get it for you sometime but car is tucked away. The port alignment was pretty far off, all correctable with a little work with a die grinder. Mine was used and had a crack in the heat crossover, I blocked this with valley pan gasket, do not know if it is a problem or just abuse on mine.
I had to put a heli-coil in carb mounting flange as one hole was stripped (more abuse).
Carb flange is ~3/4" higher than stock cast iron 666 manifold, created no fitment issues on my E body.
My throttle linkage is a Hodge podge of pieces and modifications over the years, but the stock bracket did clear the intake port runners. My stock vacuum tree fitting screwed right into the provided hole. I cannot remember if there is coil mounting holes, because I cannot mount mine there because of Holley carb.
The Mopar performance dual plane is a exact copy of late model cast iron intake, except for a Holley style square flange instead of spread bore. Excellent manifold with no fitment issues
If I were buying brand new the Performer RPM is #1 choice. It has the best of all the good about any previous intakes. Only drawback is it is a little tall for some cars. If it fits on your car it is a must.

Thanks man great explanation and gold info there ... I may even start a document to keep track of everything I learn about replacement style intakes for RBs to keep track of everything. Hopefully more experience will be forthcoming from others who have it.

I really appreciate your help and others who have commented so far

I'd definitely look at the RPM if was appropriate to an application. Kind of looking for something that will fit and look stock on as many late 60s factory applications as possible with this particular endeavor.

Anyone have experience with an Edelbrock Performer 440, an Action+ model 8009, or an Mopar Performance P4529118, for RB or even a B?

Love to hear what you know about performance and fitment on an otherwise stock car and what carb, breather being used.

I think this is the issue we all face. There’s lots of talk about how to make engines work for light weight b and e bodies, but not a lot of empirical data on how to make something for a c body. Every comparison out there is for a combination that is too heavily compromised in off-idle torque.

My 66 new yorker 2dr has an Edelbrock Performer RPm and a Performer 1407 carb. Don't use the original air cleaner so I can't answer to it's fitment. But the hood closes with no issues. Here's a photo of what it looks like. I switched to a sanden compressor a while back so I don't have any issues with compressor mounting. I am working on changing to an Fitech 30002 EFI this spring.

What are you using for cylinder heads? Not looking to race mine. But I've heard aluminum heads run cooler and are less prone to knocking. Was thinking about a set of performer RPM heads but read there is an issue with the spark plug angle and stock manifolds. Would like to install headers but my wallet is only so fat. One part at a time to keep the wife happy.

I have an Edelbrock Performer on my 440, but I use a 1/2" spacer (needed when I ran a Holley) with an Edelbrock 1411, and a shorter air filter with a drop down base. The top of the filter assembly touches the bottom of the hood, which is adjusted up in the back about 1/2 - 3/4". Also modified the throttle bracket taller. Only had to move the coil, otherwise everything bolted up fine.

Mine is a street car i drive 80 miles to the track. I run the 440 source stealth heads. In that video they were stock, i have since had them cnc ported. They flow well. I posted my flow numbers on this site.

Weiand action plus...I am going to install that one on a 383 b-body with factory a/c. First issue...outer mounting holes. There is not enough space for the screw heads..That means. Grinding all around flat.
Second issue...on my casting. Missfitment on the intake runners which are going to the heads. Cylinder 6/8 was bigger with a smaller fin according to the other 3 openings. That means additional clearance work on the intake plus head openings. Will install That one with new heads in 2 weeks..

@tallhair

I really suggest that you won´t buy a manual choke. It´s a PITA when the weather is chilly and you try to warm up a cold engine.

thanks. I'll take that under advisement. I used to have a manual choke on my 4 speed RB Road Runner and it wasn't a problem in IL and that was in the early 80's when we actually had winters here ... southern Illinois that is.

I will definitely consider just going with an electric choke though :)

I use a mechanical secondary, electric choke quickfuel SS830 carb

Reviving this thread. I’m now also considering a Holley street dominator also. Anyone have one and know the carb height compared to stock manifold?

I want to be able to use under a stock 70 air Grabber hood so should be pretty close to stock height as I’ll be using stock air cleaner, if I can find a 440 4 BBL base. If you have a 440 cleaner please PM me.

What’s all that in the rear center for?
