The labelling standards ARE already in place, BUT not all states require it! Texas, for example, does require the labels stating ethanol %, on each pump. "May contain up to 10% Ethanol", for example. QwikTrip had begun substituting E15 for diesel at their newer stations in areas of town where diesel normally doesn't sell well, at about 7 cents/gallon less than E10. Other QTs have E85 at 40 cent/s gallon less than E10. Most of the newer/re-done WalMart/MurphyUSA stations now sell E0 for about 10% more than E10. Hard to figure out the real price of gas!
The Ethanol Lobby is strong and claims they have all of the answers, from surveys they've done. They claim the "1" number higher posted pump octane will make newer vehicles run so much better (higher octane) than even E10 does, as it lets the computer increase efficiency for better performance and such. "1" octane number makes that much difference, in the real world???
But it seems that the "high-boost" turbo tuners (think Subarus and such) use E85 like a cheap race gas. Cooler intake charge, more boost can be used for more front tire shredding horsepower and smoke. Consumer E85 is limited to about 65% ethanol, although "race fuel" E85 is really 85% ethanol.
On the SEMA page on legislation, there should be a link to click on for your representative. That'll surely get a reply AND possibly every "look what I've done" email they send out, by observation. Been there, done that. Quite painless to use their link, though.
