Mien Güt, I have never had so many low-ball offers on a car. I'll let screen caps tell the story.

Yes it is very annoying. Everybody offers low dollars without talking to the owner, they have no more information or details. They don’t care about asking any questions about the car, it’s all about the low ball offer. I believe they learned this annoying tactic from the car shows on TV. They talk about getting a “quick flip for the shop” and they offer the guy half the money right from the start.

That Mirada looks pretty good in the photos.

Raise the price a few thousand and until you get the right low ball offer on what you were originally wanting

Looks great in white over red!

Distance doesn't bother me for the right prize. I was eyeing up Carmines Mirada. While the red interior does look better than the tan the car was built with. I have a problem ( gremlins in my own head) with a car that has been gone through . I still want Carmines Mirada and probably should have bought that over the Ramcharger.

You bought his Ramcharger?

A used car "gone through"? What vehicle of that age might not have already been "gone through" or might need it in the future? Just to know what's there, and such.

Kind of like how much you trust that "150 Point Used Car Certification" check. More about "whom" does it and what care they might or might not take in doing that "certification". OR how familiar they are with what they're looking at!

I really liked those Miradas when new. especially that white with red leather. Th3 318 4bbl and such would have been the ONLY powertrain I would have considered, too. Some cop car suspension upgrades? Bad that it came at a time that was not economically well for the nation and fuel economy meant more than performance.

As for pricing . . . IF I price something to sell, I will have already looked in the price guides and other places to see what's SELLING make my determination of what I'd want for the vehicle. Even possibly aiming a little bit high so some bargaining might occur with an interested owner. But when that "lower-than-lowball" offer might happen, instant signal that it's not a real offer and things progress from there. If there's a perception of real interest and "future caring for", then the two prices might find something closer to the desired selling price . . . if not, "See you later . . ."

On the other hand, if I might end up over-paying for a car that's really nice, that just means that I'm going to need to find somebody else equally enamored with the car to pay a little more for it than the normal vehicle of its type. So "unloadability" can be important without causing financial distress. Sometimes, that "enjoyment" factor becomes more expensive, by observation.

Just some thoughts,

I'm a lot more inclined to let it go cheap if I at least think it's going to a good home and i'll see some resto pics...

I also get your point about the "gone through". It caused me a moments pause as well. For as much as we malign the factory work of 50-some years ago, there was at least some sort of process and level of inspection. Shade-trees often route wires incorrectly, break fasteners, miss bolts, etc. One reason I didn't let the interior swap throw me was because it was just trim. The dash is the more critical element, so I actually preferred that it remained as-installed from Windsor.

Last week I got a phone call from an editor at Mopar Muscle who asked me to send more high-res photos. He says they're going to feature it in their "$5k Mopar Challenge"... Basically 2dr, RWD V8 projects. As of yet, I haven't heard anything more, but he hasn't published the latest installment yet.

Funny enough I'm actually tempted by something else out Phoenix way at the moment (info below). I have an '89 5th Ave that was my daily for a few years. It has a like-new blue leather interior and a decent, but no longer perfect body. I've kicked around the idea of a protouring/green brick-style car with a 500 inch LA small block or a new Hemi.

I've also thought about mixing the DNA with a (rare) LeBaron coupe body and creating a 5th Ave coupe. So long before I bailed out for $1900, I'd see if this guy would trade.

But I still contend the Mirada is worth closer to $3k, so it remains on the market for now. And obviously I owe the guy who's been sitting on it a taste of the money.
