I've been working like hell getting my fury fixed. In 2012 i bought what I thought was a good quality chrome dipstick, and tube... when I checked the oil yesterday there's little small chrome flakes in it... the marks on the dipstick are not as sharp, and letters look dull. I'm pissed. I'm looking for an original type ether nos, or a good reproduction. I need both the dipstick, and tube. I'll change the oil again also. Is there anything else I should be concerned about?

Got any other chrome parts like timing & valve covers?

If it's just the dipstick & tube, just change the oil & filter and keep a eye on it.

May wanna cut open the filter and see how much is in there.

I'd cut open the oil filter and see how much is in there. Maybe these metallic flakes are from something else.

Chrome PCV? heh all I used were the black plastic variety.

If the metal is small pieces, it could also be wear metal from the rings, camshaft or bearings. It all looks shiny when suspended in the oil.. As noted above, check the oil filter for metal, if there is a lot of it, you have a serious problem other that chrome peeling off the dipstick.

Yea but have you had it out on the highway for a good long hard run?
Like take it on a trip that involves several tanks of gas?
That to me is a good break in.

Engine was ran up to 2,500rpm for 20 minutes to break in the cam. I've only used valvoline vr1 20w/50 since break in

20w-50w is an appropriate oil for racing applications, not so good for street use because it has poor cold flow abilities. I would suggest 10w-40w as a good street alternative.

You can always do an oil sample. Walk into any CAT dealer and for about $15 they'll sell you a sample kit. You fill the bottle (about 3 shot glasses) and it tests what is suspended/dissolved in the oil. They can't use a sample with chunks in it and oil should be warm when you draw it. Turn it in or mail it, it comes with a prepaid envelope(for now ) but Uncle Sam is trying to stop us from doing that. In 3 days to a week you'll get everything spelled out in black and white - what metal means what engine parts , silica and even tells how your viscosity is holding up ( broke down oil , fuel dilution etc) for 15 bucks it's a pretty good deal. Good luck !!!

Hey Jason @68plymouth383. Did you ever find a correct dipstick tube?
I am searching now as well, due to a kink I just found. As I am searching the forums I am not finding much more than discussion and ones that were supposed to be right are not.
Just wondering if anyone found a good source for a replacement.
Thanks
Marty
