At what point does one say "screw it!" with cars?

Big smiles today! It got to nearly 70 today! An absolutely perfect day to get out in the shop. Bought a new battery and ballast resistor for the Coronet today and fired it up...sounded great! I need to go to the parts store and get another resistor for the Hudson (part of the 12V conversion) and get that to start and run tomorrow. I'll need to start the Imperial later today. It hasn't been driven since early November because of the brake booster.

We hadn't seen that big orange ball in nearly three weeks; been very cold, overcast, foggy, and depressing. Today was great!

Summit had the absolute worst order fulfillment times of anyone I've ever dealt with... 30 days+ before shipping rare and exotic timing parts for my stock 99 SBC... I had ten days off, and ordered a week in advance thinking it would work out.

Every time I’ve ordered from summit I’ve had the part in 24 hours or less. I’ve even received orders before the charge went through on my cc.

I still have the desire to work on my 68 Newport, but my body has let me down. I need a hip replacement and it hurts a lot just to walk. I also had 8 inches of colon removed and am now wearing a bag to ****, temporary as it may be, it still sucks.

I bought a ton of parts from Summit with very quick delivery. Never had anything delivered that was damaged. And didn't have a problem returning anything.

I'm just turning 64, and feel the slowing down coming on with age. I have been blessed to have 5 old toy cars (57, 61, and 70 300's most relevant to this site). I believe there might be some medicinal enhancements that can help some of us older guys who are having issues with motivation and energy levels. I live north of Boston, and the amount of traffic congestion and number of idiot drivers testing my patience and scaring me while out on the road are making the hobby more difficult for me than my age. There is no 'rush hour' here any more. Traffic is always bad, except maybe 5 am on a Sunday morning. Weekday cruise nights are getting harder to go to due to the traffic congestion. I still like the cars and the people in the hobby, but driving is more of a tension convention these days. Seems like only a few years ago I was waiting for my cars to turn 25 so I could get antique plates and less expensive insurance, and now they're 50 or more years old. I can't ever recall looking forward to owning a 50 year old car. I've thought about moving up a few decades to a 10 or 15 year old car (like the ones I started with). I recently took a 2005 Dodge Magnum R/T and turned it into a 300C commemorative edition station wagon by changing over the entire nose and all the trim. It now has the same red/white/blue circular 300C badging as my 57 300C. It's 'value' is much less than the 57, but drives very well, and if something bad should happen, it's only a $3K indulgence that is more easily repairable than a 50 or 60 year old Chrysler. Some days I want to sell everything and get a Hellcat, but then I go to a cruise night and see 5 or 6 of them there, while I'm in the only Hurst Edition 300 from 1970. I'm pretty sure I've done my last 'frame off' resto. If I ever do get something else, it will be all done and paid for by the sale of a couple of my existing toys. I don't mind the maintenance, and have found a garage or two that I trust if the job is too nasty. (I'm not doing ball joints anymore!)

AaaaYup I hear ya on that, same here in central Floriduh.

I got a year on'ya and don't care for any of the "medicinal enhancements" even a 5 gallon pail won't help, do'in just fine myself... it's everyone around me that are jumping around on Energy Drinks is what is wrong. Plus no Robin Meade on this morning and the pill ad's are killing me, think I got the Crohn's disease, may have that skin affliction too or I'm coming down with all the side effects. Did learn something thou, there is a BiPolar 1 class, maybe I'm Bipolar 10 level.

I just thought I'd add, I've had some... "concerning" medical issues lately, and so far, all signs point to bad news. I haven't had the testing done that I need (mainly because the tests cost so damn much, but I digress...) but I'm kinda preparing myself for it now. When I finally get around to it, if my fears are confirmed, my Newport will be the first thing I list for sale.

Sorry you’ve got potential bad news hanging over you. Not sure what else we can say, but since my wife just got bad news we’ve found out about some amazing progress made on the cancer fronts in recent years. Hope any bad news is tempered by hope in medical treatment. We know from experience that waiting for test results is agonizing, so I hope you get quick results so you can map out next steps needed (or, hopefully NOT needed).

On Saturday, I got the remainder of the parts for my '54 Hudson Jet that the guy who sold me the car, had left. New taillight lenses and front park lenses were among the goodies!

Took my Coronet out for a spin yesterday. Today marks my 39th year of ownership of the '66!!! So, after work, I'll take her out for a wash, a tank full of 95 octane, and a corn dog at Sonic.

This week - the brake booster finally comes out of the Imperial for rebuild, and the DS front window motor finally gets swapped!

When I have "Hellcat it" visions, I then snap back to reality where I live in a world where 99.8% of my time I am...
1. Confined to 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 mph speed limits enforced by radar.
2. Restricted to 5-15 mph under the speed limit by vehicles in front of me.
3. I have to maintain the speed limit on empty stretches of rural road because I'm a sitting duck to radar.
4. On roads where even at 5:00 AM Sunday morning there are traffic lites every 1/4 mile.
5. In a world where there are 3 kinds of drivers.
5.1. Over the age of 85
5.2. Immigrants and drunks who drive too slow because they don't have a license.
5.3 Everybody else is talking and texting on the phone.

That's why I detest leaving my driveway. Why do I need a high performing car anymore? Give me an isolation chamber that cools and massages my butt when I go to Bed Bath & Beyond.

Got ah question for all youz guyz prefaced by saying that before we moved south I had THE MOTHER OF ALL HARDWARE STOREZ 20 minutez away in Jackson, Michigan. These Guyz still sold Rope by size by pulling it out of the wood floor by the different size of the knot they grabbed sticking up thru' the different holez in the floor. Been in Wilmington goin' on 5 yearz now and can't even find a hardware store THAT HAZ ah basement to hold the different size ropez, AND THEY ALL SELL CRAFTSMAN NOW, WTH HAPPENED? Jer

... not driving anywhere beyond the monster shopping center about a mile from home.

I gave my Jeep to Graham for a complete bumper to bumper servicing at the end of July 2017 and in twenty months since then I have managed to drive 2070 miles (3332 Km). I guess I'm not going to qualify for any "high miler" awards with my monthly average of 103 miles (166 km).

My Fury went to sleep through the winter 2017-18 and awoke in the spring with a bad torque converter, so no driving there.

No point in buying green bananas any more!!
