I need help...I have purchased a 1959 Dodge Coronet. My problem is I am 6'3" and with the 17" wide steering wheel, it somewhat inhibits me from braking...the wheel is right up against my leg and I feel uncomfortable driving the car.
I would love to be able to get a 15" steering wheel and adapter for this car. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Your steering wheel is very unique for that year - it's going to be a challenge to find something in the aftermarket that doesn't look like prime rib roast station at a vegan buffet...

Something else to consider - does your car have power steering? A smaller wheel make low speed turns and parking a challenge...

I went on the Grant website and found what I think might be suitable - they have a black one too. Still doesn't seem right though...

What about finding a tilt column that would allow you to raise the wheel?

Thank you for taking the time to write to me. No it doesn't have power steering...but I thought 15" would be sufficient. I asked my car guy about somehow finding a way to tilt the steering wheel but he said that it is impossible. I'll look at the website you sent and again many thanks.

My pleasure. You'd need to install a new tilt column in place of the original, and mount your original wheel on it. That way the look and style remain the same but the wheel can be tilted up out of the way of your legs.

Anything is possible - check into a tilt column

Thank you again Ross...my car guy is coming back tomorrow...a tilt column seems like the way to go if possible.:thankyou:

You may be able to adjust the seat. Look under at the seat frame and there may be some adjustment slots that allow the seat to be raised and lowered.

I am 6'8" and have always had issue driving vehicles. Also check to see if there any spacer under the seat brackets against the floor, I know the 60's and 70's mopars had them so I would remove them to give me a little more leg room under the steering wheel. Also look at the seat brackets and where they mount on the bench(?) seat....sometimes there is additional holes, or new ones could be drilled, to move the bench farther back on the brackets.

Tilt columns always required power steering so that they wouldnt fail eventually.
