"Up for bid today is a 1974 Dodge Monaco two-door sedan powered by a 400 cubic inch mill and back by 727 transmission. I save this car from guy who wanted to put it in a demolition derby and thought it was way too good to smash up and being a two-door it's kind of rare. The car hadn't been on the road in a number of years so I brought the car home drained the fuel tank put in new filters, gas, battery, plugs, wires, cap and rotor and she fired right up! Sounds great no strange noises, no smoking, runs like a top. After that I cleaned and repainted the rims and installed brand new white letter tires. I then proceeded to take the car out on a test drive and found out that the car does not have third gear and has a week reverse :( I do not have anymore time or money to put into this car being I have a quite a few other projects in front of it and don't want to see it sit and rot again. All the lights and gauges work, even the fuel gauge, all doors open good and all windows raise and lower even the quarter windows . The body on the car is quite nice, it has rust on the bottoms of the front fenders and at the very bottom of the quarter panels . Floors, trunk floor and subframe of the car are in terrific condition . Even with third gear being out in the transmission, and being the car has tall gears in the rear, I have been driving her around in first and second gear without a problem. Brakes work very good also...will put you through the front window! The car will need exhaust in the future as the pipe dumps mid car for now. Two things that do not work on the car besides 3rd gear are the window wipers and the radio...it turns on but no sound. In my opinion with a rebuilt transmission and a little more TLC the car would make a great big body Mopar cruise! I would love too see this car go too a good home and not smashed up as so many before her have fallen victim to. Good luck and if you have any questions drop me a line."

Lotsa nice toys in that driveway... I'm jealous of the garage and parking space...

Kind of in good shape but would take a good chunk of money to restore.

Maybe but not too late to do something about it without having to use a welder.

I bet it will still need metal repair in the rear quarters and some places under the vinyl.

That's not a car to restore, IMHO. Fix it up, perk it up, and drive it. Could make a nice quasi-clone of a copcar if it was a 4dr, but 2drs of this don't seem to be worth much otherwise?

Dodge: Monaco

Borderline crusty.

I agree. A full-on assault with a soda blaster now can save this car for not that much money.

Everything depends on perspectives. That underside looks A-OK to me, as most likely we'd not drive the car in the rain, and it will last another 40 years like that. Surface rust like that is stabilized and won't accelerate without salt and/or a lot of continuous moisture. Looks like the bottom of the quarters could use some patching.

The bottom could clean up for a decent driver. I would wire brush the underside down and paint/coat it.

I wonder what ever happened to this Monaco. I almost had to bring it home. And if it wasn't for the fact top speed was 40mph I would of. But the thought of an extra cost for a new tranny and all the other little things could of put me in a big hole right out of the gate. I still kick my self sometimes for not just biting the bullet. And thus my love and search for the c body formal coupes began.
