Re-chromed original CHP bumpers.

I always paint the inside and wax the chrome as soon as I get them in the shop.

I looked up the company you used and seen some very very poor reviews...but this makes me question that...those bumpers look excellent! Cant wait to see em on the car!

Thanks man, me too.

I hear you,...actually none of the "affordable" platers have a very good reputation on the internet.

I wanted "driver quality" chrome, and straightening and that is exactly what I got. They did get the bumpers relatively straight. Not too wavy. It looks fine for me, better than fine for most people. They will look great on the car.

If this was an OEM or show quality restoration, I would have been using a different shop.

I located the original GM radiator overflow tank that the CHP installed on these cars in ‘69.

While the grill was off I installed it and it fits like a glove, it works too.

Also located the original issue CHP external radio speaker and installed that as well, it fit like a glove and works!

Baby steps...

Hey Trev,

I just discovered this tread today. I'm very interested and now following this. I love the vintage police cars. Pretty awesome project you decided to take on, makes me want a one now. Last I knew there was a '69 Polara police cruiser originally from Massachusetts in my state of Connecticut. Not sure if it is still around, haven't see it in awhile. Here is a picture. The "new" bumpers on your car are looking great by the way. Any updates on the rest?

Have you tried hot sodium bicarbonate soak on the yellow paint? It's baking soda.

Paint should curdle off without affecting the factory finish. ...See what it does to battery terminals.

We once used it to remove paint professionally. Hot wet rags would get what you have left.

Maybe it is a clone, the caption from this picture says it's a clone. Maybe you're right. If it is a clone it's a damn nice one. Would still like to know if the MA police used these or not. Anybody, Alan?

You ain't wrong there Dave, he does have a few great cars from what I saw on this forum. Obviously the star and probably most rare is the Linda Vaughn convertible, although the triple black 6bbl GT ain't to far behind that.

Thanks for asking. Not much to report, I’ve been busy working on customer cars lately.

Although I hopefully will get the paint wet sanded and polished in the spring.

Love the MA cars!

I’ll give it a try..the spots where the original CHP applied “yellow” will not come off is where the CHP actually aggressively sanded the car or used body filler.

Thanks for the tip, I appreciate it

Thanks!

I may have one too many though!

There are other C body collectors that have better and or more pristine cars than I do... I just keep “pecking” at what I like.

And there are guys that have one car,..and that’s just as cool. I’ve never tried to compete with collectors per say.

Hopefully I can save some for the future generation; but will they even care???

Thanks!

There is considerable wisdom in that statement Trev, as I have asked myself the same question over and over - but I have to admit, to be honest to myself, I just want to restore my favorites still just so I can look at and/or drive them occasionally until I am gone.

bumpers look great
cant wait to see more progress on it
you are giving me inspiration to work on '71

Thanks

Works great on small parts, too. Let them soak 10 minutes.
