It has unfortunately come time to bid adieu to Beverly. A few things have come up on top of my house (seasonal maintenance, projects), my company (wood worker), my job (marketing), my dogs (three), my wife and my bad habit of making music, the car is getting little more than shelter in my hands and I’m feeling little more than guilt in owning her.… there simply no time and no money to make what needs to happen happen.


That said:


1967 Dodge Monaco 500, 383 4bbl, auto, PS, PB, a/c, console/buckets, cream/gold 2 tone (non vinyl), 109,000 mi, Texas, 3 owner car. Largely original with no signs of major collision.

Exterior displays it's age with a lot of half a**ed fixes (bad touchups, silicone rear window seal .. more on that later). bumper is pretty bent in front (bought a more serviceable front bumper, included with sale) and shallow *bumped* in back (chrome is pretty good out back and the bump could be taken out).

Most of the trim is in really good condition with some dents in the lower anodized stuff, nothing twisted. The front "eyebrow" hood piece has a sharp scratch/dent in it (I have a replacement piece that is a bit less bent but fixable included in the sale). Grille is complete, straight and not broken anywhere. Rubber on the bumperettes are cracked but there, same with the piece where the bumper meets the front fender horn. Side view mirrors are a little dull but better than many I’ve seen. Exterior window trim is all straight shiny.


The taillights are complete but pretty brittle with one glued together fix on the pass. side and one cigarette burn on the drivers side They have the chrome inner trims which are often lost on these. I have another set of lenses that are in good condition save for that they are missing the inner trim. The idea was to put those lenses on and transfer the inner trim to them. All included in the sale.

Sorry to hear you have to sell, I hope it goes to a great home. It would be great if it was someone here.
 
I haven't removed the rocker trim but there's no through rust that I can find feeling around down in the 1/4s from inside the trunk. There are some small holes and pitting in the trunk, likely due to the rear window seal which is likely the worst part of the car. The seal went out, as they do and someone got around the OUTSIDE of the trim (paint side) with silicone which actually sealed the water in. It's repairable but will require removal of the window and likely a roof repaint as there is about a 1/8" hole just to the left of the window down near the dutchman’s panel above the chrome roof trim. The channel at the dutchman’s panel will need attention from what I can see through the silicon. I see no corrosion around the windshield anywhere.

I've not removed the carpet but cut a couple of holes in the rear footwells near the plugs. There's scaling but no visible holes in the metal. The carpets are pretty beat but there and clean up pretty well in front. The headliner split at the frontmost rod and is just kind of hog ringed up on the rod. The dash is surprisingly not split anywhere, though pretty dry. Steering wheel is cracked a bit but the chrome is in great shape.

The interior chrome is ok save for the lower corners at the back window and the shift button. The "plasti chrome" on the dash is pretty much gone but the same stuff on the door panels are clean ... arm rest bases are like the dash, grey. Console is cocked a bit to one side but in good shape.

Radio was fried so I pulled the fuse .. I'd rather hear the motor anyway but that's just me. All gauges work with no cracks in the crystals, heat works, a/c works but is weak. Windshield washer is a no go as the res and pump are gone. All interior lights work though the sail panel lights are weathered. Driver seat is split with a crappy cover on it. Other places have had cloth material hacked in such as the tops of the back seats but the surfaces are still holding.


The plastic part of the rear package tray is not cracked but the tray itself (the perforated metal part) is corroded in a few places. I’ve not removed it to clean our underneath. Door panels (save for pass rear which could use a a re stretch) and wicker treatments are in good condition. Aluminum on the buckets are in good shape. Glass is all in good shape and all mechanisms *work* except for the pass side vent which is in need of a new gear.

Engine compartment is in pretty good shape, underhood insulation is torn up as are the splash shields likely from mice at some point. Fire wall looks solid but I'm sure the cowl and floor vents need a cleanout.

Underneath, frames, floors (again save for the trunk floor in a few spots) look solid and super clean. Theres a dent in the x member but nothing is out of line as a result. Other than my 68 that was a 24,000 mi car when I got it, I've never had a car that was as nice to wrench on. Haven't encountered one stubborn bolt.


For what I've done; the car had a bad timing chain when I got it so while doing that:
New oil pump and p/u
New fuel pump
New oil pan, timing cover, valve cover, water pump, manifold fuel pump gaskets
flushed and repaired radiator
converted to electronic ignition (pertronix igniter)
New Edelbrock 600CFM (still have original AFB but someone mangled the jets at some point, they'd have to be drilled out to rebuild properly)
New voltage regulator
New steering box, Pitman, Idler, inner and outer tie rods and wheel bearings
New gas tank, sender and filter
New tires
New battery (not in engine compartment photo!)

Brakes are functioning with no leaks but the pads are getting there. Steering is good though the pump bracket isn't quite set up right so theres some belt chirp at a stand still turning at low RPM.

Engine runs very well and doesn't use much if any oil. There's a bit of smoke that comes out of the breather it seems though theres also a spot on the ex manifold on that side .. I can't tell if it's old or if that smoke may be a small valve cover leak.

Transmission shifts well but is a little sticky going into R esp when cold and kickdown isn't set properly. It is also leaking at the moment.

The entire sus needs a rebuild. I bought everything to do this, all from PST save for the rear leafs which are from ESPO Springs N things.


So, included would be the car, the susp parts, the tail lights, the bumper, the original carb and a box of misc parts that the PO sent along with it.

Sorry you decided to sell but IMO you've priced it right, it looks like a nice car that someone could buy and still have the ambition/money to finish off the small stuff. Good Luck.

I hope so, Rip. She's a strong contender, quite a looker and I'll be sad to see her go. I just know that between my ever fluctuating health (at 41, even) and all that is mentioned above, she won't get what she needs from me. ... Anyway, thanks for the support.

Hope it ends up in the home it deserves. It is a great looking car and it has to be a tough decision.

Yea, it sucks. But I've been through this before. .. though the last one ended up in some guys barn for the last 13 years .... :BangHead:

Yea, man! I'm sure I'll be kicking round and who knows? Perhaps I make crazy carpenter money (haha) and buy myself something I can cruise for once?
