Finally a 70’ Fury Owner

Hey man I was told way back when that if you start removing stuff from the interlock system and you don’t open the steering column and disarm the locker arm it can go off and LOCK the steering column WHILE you’re driving!!!!!!!!!!

Those rods shouldn’t just be hanging loose in there. Somebody else chime in and confirm this true or not true as I’d hate to see anybody have that happen out on the road. I’ve never tried to disable those column interlocks since I heard this. Old timers will remember this as ‘70’s news stories of “the column suddenly locked & off the bridge cliff etc they went...” be careful.

You can take the accelerator cable to an old school bike shop and have it custom fit to length for your new 4bbl. We did this at a Harley type shop back in the 80’s when new cables were made of unobtainium. It works.

The only way the steering column will lock is if the key is completely back in the off position.

Thanks Big John. I saw this and it kinda worried me. I know about key all the way back to lock but I was told if you disconnect the rods and leave it half installed ( my case was a pistol grip 4spd ), it can fail. There is some slider arm back in the column you have to pull out to 100% eliminate the possibility of a locking failure. Better safe than sorry I was told. I have no pics but if I remember I think it looks like a tiny arm like the e-brake lever pinned on the rear shoe. It fits in the palm of your hand.

As much as I love how it looks. I just don’t think ER6 is for me. I’ve went through every available Chrysler color for ‘69-‘72 and I’ve come down to.

FP6
EB3
FY2
FY4
DY3

All variations of Blue and Yellow. I plan on changing the top to white here in the near future, but curious if I should change the interior as well. As the $$$ starts adding up. In ‘70 all interiors were available in black, regardless of top or exterior colors. So it wouldn’t be unrealistic.

Looks like I’ll have to look for the correct linkage to to do the job properly. I think a good way would be to check in the FSM if the column linkage is the same between console and floor shift. And then if - it’s the same between earlier B Body cars, which I’m prepared if it’s not.

The car went to a shop a week ago for some small work, but I dont get good vibes from them. Seems like shady practices, so I’ll be picking her back up tomorrow or Saturday and moving to a friends garage

I will second the FP6...Frosted Teal Metallic....My old 70 Sport Fury was that colour and it was amazing, and you just don't see many cars in that colour.

A friend of mine just found this Fury out in the woods and is planning on pulling it. I jumped to find out about it but it looks like the hood and lower quarters are bad which I wanted.

Will have to see the rest of the frame, and what kind of options it has. I think I’ll pull it home. Gonna check to see if the 383 in it still spins freely. If so it’d be a great chance to get a 383/727 like I’ve wanted. Silly question - would all big block engine C-Body cars receive a 8.75 rear end? Or is there a chance of if being something else? Neither of us are near the car so unfortunately I can’t just look.

If it’s a 383 car I’ll bet you a soda it’s an 8&3/4 inch rear.

My main question is - can big block cars receive the 7 .25 or 8.25? Or is it ONLY able to have the 8.75? Similar to small block engines with 904s, and big block with 727s

The only cars I’ve ever seen with the peewee rear axle is slant 6 and 318 cars. I’ve had loads of 383 cars and every single one had an 8 & 3/4 rear. That oddball 9& 1/4 stuff was after ‘72 I think. Like in a ‘74 coronet / fury or big bolt pattern Darts. If it has a rear cover it’s small. If it’s got a drop out pig it’s whatcha want.

Happy hunting.

I agree. My factory 440 car has 8.75 rear with limited slip and 3:23. The 440 cars had standard front disc brakes, not sure what 383 got.
Remember the non 4speed hemi cars got the 8 & 3/4. That axle is pretty darn strong. I’d put it up against a 9” any day. And a 10 or 12 bolt forgetaboutit. No contest.

It depends how good the body is; but seems like there isn’t the most amount of panels for me to use on my car. Ill mainly be in it for the driveline, and maybe a power seat or something else cool if it’s got it. I don’t have the heart to junk or scrap the rest and I don’t have a home to keep the car till it’s parted out.

You 2 come to first mind. @Wollfen @C Body Bob Would either of you gents be interested in taking the rest of the car? I’ll sell it to you for the grand old price of $0 Dollars and $0 Cents. I just want to see the usable parts and metal to a good place which I know you will.

Sure Greer I would be willing to take it :) Lets talk and work something out. This car is perfect for my needs as I am doing a 70 Fury too as you know.

Well I got the car out after much sweating and panting. Back window fell out during transport. Both front and rear window channels are totally rotted away. The chassis bowed when I jacked it up to change the wheels. Oh man, this car is RUSTY. Had to pull the steering wheel off to get it to turn, keys were lost and the wheel was turned far to the right.

But, I guess plenty for you to use though, Gary?
