KPH Speedometer

Possibly '69-'73, as the instrument panel design was pretty much the same, other than some model year-specific trim?

’71-’73 Chrysler dashes were the same. ’69-’70 is different. I wish you luck. Not many were made. Mainly for the European exports, I assume.

Back in the day only about 25-30 Chryslers were imported to Finland annually. Around 10-12 New Yorkers, and 15-20 Newports, plus an occasional 300, as well as Imp. Very few ever ended up at wrecking yards. Most have endured to this day. - Alas, no KPH speedos available.

I counted about 40 Chryslers imported in 1/71-12/73. A couple latest could have been 74 models. I bet there is some crashed and some junked 4 door bodys, but to find those... I have wanted ads all over facebook and forums. At least I know now that 69-70 won't fit.

The Chrysler dash .is made differently say compared to an A B E body cars.
Unlike the cars mentioned rhe digits were molded into the plastic.
The popular cars mentioned have the speedo digits printed or screened on the speedo head which in the aftermarket makes it easy to repop the faces of speedo heads even in KPH. In the form of a decal.
Not so much for your 73 T&C where your unicorn metric cluster is made of pixie dust.

Here is picture of -73 NewYorker speedometer. Kph-scale is just glued over mph. Backing is spaced differently. These are probably easy to reproduce with 3d printer and new sticker. But what about odometer? New gears to somewhere?

Odometer will have different gearing, correct. Scale of speedometer will be different behind the numbers too, as there are only 5 segments to reach 100 KMH as opposed to 6 segments to reach 60 MPH. Attached are some pictures of a regular MPH speedo from a 66 Chrysler, and the metric versions.

I found one from 69 NewYorker. I know that the faceplate is different, but is the speedo and odometer same?

The kph speedo scale just an add-on on the regular dash?

Now that is something that never even crossed my mind. So I cross checked btw my ’70 (which has an MPH scale), and an old photo of an original ’70 ”Suomi-auto” (which has a KPH scale). The KPH scale indeed looks like having been an add-on (never mind the ugly after market stereo, and odd knobs):

Which makes me wonder... the speedo does not need new gears. The OEM black transmission gear will do just fine. But the odometer obviously has different gears. At a ratio of 1 to 1.609.

I have been very lucky with my 67s that i have found two KPH for both my C Bodies.... Both Ebay finds.

I just switched out the lens and plate and kept the speedo gear and ect. That way the mileage stayed true!

What about the guys that rebuild speedometers? Could they convert to KPH's for you with an overlay?
