I decided it was time to install my new antenna mast. surprise!!! It doesn’t fit. The new antenna has a small diameter threaded screw that is supposed to thread into the base. However my base has a larger hole and is threaded on the outside so uses a cap nut to secure the base? Sometime in the past I believe I changed the antenna but thought I went stock. What is correct? My new antenna or my old base.
If the base does someone hav a good used one?

I'm not sure where you got your antenna mast from but if it's a universal one, there should or would be adapters with it to make up the difference in diameters.

The mast came from YearOne and is supposed to be the same as stock.

I remove my antenna when I have my car cover on the wagon and forgot I layed it on my wipers one time....drove off and didn't realize until hours later. Went hunting for it and found it in an intersection, had been driven over a bunch of times. Ordered a "reproduction" mast but it is not exactly the same as my original....fits my base fine but the look is not quite right.

The mast you have looks to be the correct one, (better than the repop I bought), should have a 1/4-20 thread on it. Mine broke down in the base and I replaced it with a reproduction, not the best, pretty sure an import. It did fit but the mast came apart, at least they sent a new one at no charge so can't complain too much. Just an FYI, when I got the car, it had an OEM AM and an old FM converter. I was able to find an OEM AM/FM that works fairly well and installed it. I used a mast off a Dakota, the thread was metric but there was enough of a shoulder on it to spin the 1/4-20 on it and it works much better than the telescoping mast.

Yes my mast is the 1/4-20 thread.
So it looks like I need to search out an original base?
@marty mopar or anyone else? Do you happen to have a good used stock base? Not sure if the cord is permanently fixed or unplugs on the stock unit. My “incorrect ?” one has the antenna cord permanently attached. I see some spendy ones on E-bay but the p/n doesn’t seem to match the book ( could be superseded. Body and cable, manual antenna 2889932.

I believe the P/N on the actual base is supposed to be 2889920.

Oh good, I was looking for a thread like this because I have a question. Maybe you can help.. if not! Maybe some can guide me.. While I had the tires off on my 77 NYB, I decided to see what it would take to pull the inner fender to access my power antenna. Which is not working and will replace soon. Took about an hour but I got the inner fender out.. voilà!! Antenna access!! I have sources on a replacement, but my question is! while I have the inner fender out, is there any maintenance or anything I should do while i have access to an all open area? Detailing and a good cleaning for sure, anything else?? Thx

For sure check your fan to make sure it spins easily, I'd pull it and clean inside the housing and lube the motor. Others have made a removable cover to allow access at a later time w/o pulling the whole inner fender. @commando1

Thx.. I did see Stan’s access thread, but just wanted to see what it took to pull the whole thing.. wasn’t TOO bad, wouldn’t want to do it Alllot... but. I’m gonna pull the other side as well just to get a good cleaning an detailing.. so your saying pull the blower motor and box for cleaning?

I wouldn't pull the entire box....... but with the motor out I'd think you have decent access to the interior of the assy, altho you may find something that makes you want to delve deeper. I've never played with one of these so this is all just guesswork and shtuff I'd call learned best practices. (My learned best practices, not to claim any other knowledge. :wideyed: )

Opening Pandora’s box is my fear, I have to look at it a little harder to see if the blower motor itself can come out without upsetting the ATCII system.. thank you for everyone’s input. I don’t want to hijack this thread.

The motor and squirrel cage will come right out. I would recommend replacing the motor while apart, they don't cost much. I have one new in the box, I think. will check the application.
