I am hoping someone on here can help me. I am having the body work and paint done on my 68 Plymouth Fury. We are having trouble with matching the paint color. The paint code on the fender tag is QQ1. I believe it is called Medium Blue but am not sure about that. I am hoping someone here knows the correct paint name or even better, knows the color formula for mixing the paint (it will be solvent-based not water-based). Thanks for any help you can provide.

It's called Electric Blue Poly on the PPG and Electric Blue Metallic on the Dupont sheets

What the color name is in the sales brochure is one thing. What the paint companies call it in their chip charts is another thing. Be sure to match the code on the data plate for best results.

Are you going to get "single stage" acrylic enamel (OEM-spec paint) or the later base coat/clear coat paint system? Just curious.

Many of the old formulas used now-obsolete pigments, so updating them to use current pigments can take some doing, but I believe some have those crossovers.

Just some thoughts,

Thanks, I remember now that I have seen both names used for that paint code. Come to think of it, I think I also have seen it referred to as Medium Blue. I do know that the code is QQ1, and thought that would be enough it get a match, but I guess paint has changed so much over the years that maybe it is no longer that easy!?! As far as what paint we are using, I don't recall at the moment, I will have to ask. I just remember them emphasizing that it was solvent based and NOT water based. Thanks for the info.

As 300rag and CBODY67 pointed out, paint names were merely marketing. Each make marketed the same paint under different names. On a side note, paints were rotated from manufacturer to manufacturer so the same paint manufacturer sold the exact paint formula to Ford for a few years, then Chrysler, then Chevy, etc.

As 300rag pointed out, the color name Plymouth used in 68 for QQ1 was Electric Blue. PPG Ditzler called it Poly for mfg code 13354 and Dupont Lucite called it Metallic for mfg code(s) 4861LH and 4861DM. I can tell you PPG quit manufacturing all acrylic enamel paints a couple years ago so finding that will be next to impossible. I don't believe Dupont is still making it either, when you search their site for Centari nothing comes up and when you google it, most articles are over 8 years old.

CBODY67, I believe there are companies still making acrylic enamel, do you know who is still making it? The paint mfg's seem to all be running away from it.

Thanks Alan, I believe that is what I needed. Thanks to everyone for helping.

Marpar, I love that color on your Mopar. I think it will also look great on my Fury.
