Compliments On Your Cars

I have had some nice compliments. I love when people tell me they learned to drive on a full size Chrysler and how much they enjoyed it.
Some of my favorites:
1. A woman read my rear fender (Three Hundred) and said "I didn't know the Thunderbird was this big" I said " It's a 300", her response, a 300 what?"
2. What year is your Pontiac?
3. Did you buy the car new? No, I was 11 when it was new. Response, "really, that's all, are you sure".

I was at the local Dodge dealership in the wagon, a few of the salesman come out to take a look. 1st question , who is the manufacture? Now it says Dodge on both fenders , the hood and the tailgate. 2nd question is it a country squire. I guess that is close enough.:BangHead:

Since I started this tread, it looks like it's got a lot of interest. Thank you. Please share if you haven't already. I have a couple stories to share:

My stepdads 4 door purple Fury sedan was originally white, and needed parts when originally found, so my stepdad put on parts from his dads old turquoise Fury II. Now, my stepdad was getting a pizza at the local pizza joint in Newington. A kid told his dad, dad look an old cop car. I don't believe he said anything. Newington, PD had Fury cop cars that were white and green.

Another story. When the purple Fury 4 door was still white someone called it a "polar bear" because it was big and white. It's been called that ever since.

That's mainly it, hope you found it interesting. Sorry if you found it stupid or boring

My beater Polara (sold) I would get complements in upscale neighborhoods but not my typical farm town ones.
The CHP car is in a league of its own.

Now on my recent trip in the Barracuda I had one gentleman come up to me and ask if I was the original owner, said no, I would have been 6 but my grandparents were. He was about my age if not older. Same guy, is it original? no it has been restored, why'd you paint it this color? its the original color.

People often see the car, no idea what it is or what year it is, think it is cool but no idea what to say.

With the Barracuda I do often get comments on the unusual color (copper) and how cool it is with the matching interior.

I always have time to chat with people about my cars even if I'm running late.

I make a point to look offended and tell them I can't afford anything newer.

Maybe not everytime.

But a few times.

I've had the numerous, "Wow, do you need a tugboat to park that thing?" But what has been really interesting is the number of thumb's up, "Nice car," "Sweet Ride," and other nice comments ever since I put the Torque Thrust Ds on my car. It was almost as if my car was invisible the previous thirteen years. I received more comments as I was driving it last week. Really interesting.

Everyone thinks my (1966) Chryslers are from the 70's for some reason. A lot of my coworkers also seem to think they are Chevies and I have to correct them all the time. Long name, starts with "CH", so Chevrolet is the first thing that comes into their minds I guess. Of course I also get the occasional, "Hey nice Lincoln!" comments when I'm out driving.

Once some old guy came up in a parking lot or gas station and said, "I once had a Polara just like that!" I replied, "This is a Chrysler, not a Dodge." He went on like he didn't even hear me. "Except my Polara looked a little different, probably because it was a 4-door. It was also green." I stopped talking and just smiled and nodded. He was intent on reminiscing about his Polara, facts be darned.

Some guy I didn't know at a cottage party tried to pick a fight with me over my car once. I guess someone I knew told him about my car. He came up and said something about me owning an old Chrysler. He already seemed to have an attitude. I said yes I own a Chrysler Windsor. He replied very abruptly, "Windsor is a Ford." I shrugged and replied yeah it's a Ford engine but it's also a Chrysler car model name. Then I walked away. I don't need that kind of negativity from a bullheaded Ford fanatic.

I most always go along with them. Nice Buick? Yeah, thanks! I get a lot of “what year is that?”... I always look at my car like I’m trying to figure out the answer and usually make an incorrect guess about a year or two off.
If that guy had come at me with that “Windsor is a Ford” stuff I would probably have said, “well, maybe that thing is a Ford, I never paid much attention. Maybe that’s why it wont start half the time!”

I usually get the “what is this car and year”
I have them look for a few moments then they can usually guess

The yearz I had the 300 Hurst I think my favorite comment waz "what year Plymouth iz that" and "how and where did you get that rear end spoiler"? Az for the Batwagon? I'd havta say when parked at shows the comment that alwayz made me feel all warm 'n fuzzy waz when ah couple guyz would walk up look at the sidez and then under the hood and the comment waz one of them to the other under their breath waz "I NEVER KNEW THAT CHRYSLER MADE A 300 WAGON, or WTF IZ THAT INTAKE!

We were driving our cars years ago, Buddy has a 70 EF8 Challenger, me in my 73 EW1 Roadrunner, and had swung in to the local parts shop we dealt with. We were at the counter when some guys strolls in the door and asks loudly..."Who owns that green Cougar out there!!" I still bug him about this one when he is out with his car and I come up on him and he doesn't see me....I'll say loudly..."Hey Man is that your Cougar!"...

It seems that a lot of people these days can't handle words with more than five letters. I recently asked for directions to where on a college campus I could buy coffee, and the student gave me the route to "the caf." Took me a moment of wondering WTF a baby cow had to do with anything before I realized that it was short for cafeteria! (I guess "café" takes too much time.)

I used to have a K-car with the Chrysler 2.2 in it. Several people insisted that it was a VW engine (confusing the K with the Omni/Horizon). It didn't bother me, really - except when I heard it from mechanics!

For me there are two levels of fun:

1. Just the car and me cruising down the road in unison...nobody else matters.
2. Then there's the strangers I run into at gas stations, etc.. that input their memories of their experiences with, in my case 72-73 Imperials (so ,when I was 10-11 yrs old) that are a different kind of fun and very cool.

Since GoldMyn started a tread on "Young Kids". I would like to know what compliments you guys get on your cars. From anyone and from anywhere.
I don't drive my Newport all that often, but it is a very nice survivor car. I get compliments every single time I go somewhere almost without fail. I get all kinds of thumbs up, people who pull up next to me and ask questions, hard stares, and general gawking. I was once at a stop sign, and a probably 80 year old lady stared so hard while she was turning that she was within an inch of hitting me. She took the time to roll her window down, and yell at me "That is one sharp lookin' car!" At target the other day, somebody yelled from across the lot "That is a clean car, dude!" Another time, i was just starting to move from a stop sign, and some idiot on a 10 speed bike sped right in front of me. He nearly jumped off his bike when he heard those dual mopar horns. He slammed on his brakes and skid, not to save himself from getting hit, but to stop and tell me how nice my car was.

I get many of the same comments others here get: "Hey! Nice car! - Hey! Is that a Pontiac? and Hey! what year is it? But the best comment I've heard occurred in NY state during a gas stop with my '66 300 Parts Car. An older gentleman comes up to me and grabs me by both shoulders and proceeds to tell me he once owned the town's local Chrysler dealership, and that they sold a lot of '66 300s. He was so excited to see one again, and he thanked me profusely for driving the 300 and saving it for people like him to see again.

I have seen Jon O's Newport, one of the best survivor cars I've come across. For me the most common phase is how many bodies does that trunk hold. Second how do you keep it so clean. Followed by does the 8 track work, what year is it, I've never seen a convertible 300 and it looks like a Dodge Charger.
