KPH Speedometer

The kph speedo scale just an add-on on the regular dash?

Now that is something that never even crossed my mind. So I cross checked btw my ’70 (which has an MPH scale), and an old photo of an original ’70 ”Suomi-auto” (which has a KPH scale). The KPH scale indeed looks like having been an add-on (never mind the ugly after market stereo, and odd knobs):

Which makes me wonder... the speedo does not need new gears. The OEM black transmission gear will do just fine. But the odometer obviously has different gears. At a ratio of 1 to 1.609.

The scale and the numbers are entirely different than the MPH speedo - the MPH speedo has 12 main graduations, and the KILO speedo only has 10.

The scale and the numbers will be a different part number(s) specific to the MPH or KILO application.

I have a 70/71 parts catalogue in my computer. What I was able to ascertain is below, and whether it applies to a 73, I do not know.

70 KILO Speedo part number is 2984 983
71 KILO Speedo part number is 2985 600

70 KILO PLATE - SPEED NUMERALS part number 2927 403
71 KILO PLATE - SPEED NUMERALS part number 2985 570

70 MPH Speedo part number is 2984 982
71 MPH Speedo part number is 2985 599

So part numbers are different to each year. But what is the difference between parts, probably nobody knows without comparing side to side... I'll compare that '69 kilo speedo to '73 mph speedo after I receive it, I hope it could be used

Sorry but mine is a US std reading...

I imagine that someone good with a editing tool could make up a label that would lay over the current US miles speed indicator
