Finally a 70’ Fury Owner

Car came with a stack of registrations, receipts, and paperwork going back 1971 and the window sticker. Looks like it got parked in NC in 93’ shorty after the then Marine or Navy Officer got stationed there. The car was sold new in Washington. Between the snow, and being parked in a swamp for about 26 years, I dont think it had much a chance. @Aidan1976 How does your sport fury in Gary’s yard look? Same body and color IIRC no?

I’ll be darn! I wouldn’t have guessed it had the window sticker still around.

Hey mate. How does the '70 Sport Fury parts car look? BAD, very bad. Just kidding. Yes, it has the same roof style as your parts car. And it is B7 'Jamaica Blue' from memory (or maybe B5, just can't put my hands on the fender tag photo at the moment). Here it is after some partial stripping during my visit to Gary's in December (the rear window too also basically just 'fell' out of it):

DISGUSTING inside. We both had to get tetanus shots after this (can see how the 4-Door body shell was used for the 2-Door, with that inner piece & door jamb welded in, then 'covered' with the 2-Door quarter panel):

Dave Wheeler's car is this colour (beautiful car by the way):

Would you have a photo of the tag of your car? I note that it has power disk brakes? Keeping them or...?

What surprised me is that it has air-con. Thought those front door vent windows signified a non-AC car. Or perhaps that was a '71 to '73 thing (too early in the morning for me still. Need a 2nd coffee...)...

Well at least it still looks like there’s lot of usable parts on your car, even if it is baked.

I can only speak for 1970, but all 4DR HT and Sedan cars had vent windows regardless of A/C or not. Similarly, all 2DR HT cars had no vent windows, climate controlled or not. All convertibles had Vent windows. Im pretty sure that changed going on from '71 & up.

Here’s a shot of the fender tag. I think I’ll be keeping the discs brakes and putting them on my NYer, keeping my Fury w/ Drums. Do you have a Fury in Aussie you’re working on?

Who else hates crank windows? Well I for sure do.

So I’ve been sourcing parts for an additional conversion. So far I have the window regulators, all 4 switches, wires, harness, window motors, the relay and circuit breaker.

What other specific items do I need? Do I need special switch pockets?

The switches will fit into a housing that is mounted to the door card, of which has the holes in a different place to the window winders. So you may be up for door cards too.

I wanted to change the interior color but was gonna keep it cheap and decided against it. If I’m in new door cards, then i might as well be in new seat covers. :realcrazy:

Are the guide tracks different for power windows? Also mounting pockets I had the suspicions. Do the housing for the pockets unmount? I’m trying to picture them so I can source them. I want everything to complete it the correct way.

They slip through from the front of the door panel and have metal tabs that are bent over the back side to secure them in place. You will just need to have someone either cut out the metal pockets, or have someone pull them out carefully. Should be the same units used from 69 to mid 70's..??

The tracks and such should all be the same, your only replacing the actual up/down mechanism with a power unit.

While you're at it, I would put individual relays on the motors (8 total). Big_John had a write up on it.

I've been mulling over the idea of finding a crusty 70 hood to cut the bulges out. Are you fellas scrapping that hood?

Link to thread?

Well that’s what I was planning on. Didn’t serve me any purpose. What did you want to graft it on? The imperial?
