1972 newport, power brakes. My brake booster is leaking vacuum and is making the car run rough. Where is a decent place to get the original booster rebuilt, or to buy a replacement?

I had a similar problem with my '69 Chrysler 300. The engine wouldn't idle correctly, and would stall out. You could literally hear the air escaping from the power brake booster.
I narrowed it down to a leaking power brake booster check valve grommet. The rubber grommet had shrunken from old age, and fit the booster very loosely.
I went to my local Advance Auto Parts store, and purchased a Dorman grommet set. I believe there were two in the package, and one of them fit snugly. In my case, I fixed my problem for under five bucks!

I wish I had seen your post sooner, as you may have already purhased a replacement booster. If not, it would be worth it for you to inspect the rubber grommet, and rule this out first, especially given the low cost.

yes but how fast is their turn around? the place I posted gets them done in a couple days I had a pair of calipers redone by them 4 years ago & they still work fine I guess its who u want to deal with I allways like to have my stuff rebuilt when I can

Yes I already replaced the check valve along with the grommet. Right now I am going to replace the original timing gear, and then in about 2 weeks I will replace the booster, and do some other brake maintenance.
They do take a few weeks, but they are also specializing in rebuilding boosters for old cars. The place you linked to seems to be a rebuilder of truck brake systems. Have you had a booster done there? How long did it take and were you happy with the service?
I'm happy with the work Booster Dewey did for me, and like others here, I will continue to recommend them highly.

Thank´s for the tip, it made my day. Has having problems whith the idle and brakes and always thought it was the brake booster leaking. Put some thread tape around the check valve to try to seal it better and voila it was much better. I have a 73 custom suburban with the Imperial brake booster so now I dont have to send it out to be rebuilt.

Booster Dewey and Booster Steve (poor Steve never gets any credit) are top notch rebuilders and know their chit.
my brother has a travco with a dual master/ booster set up on the frame----you cant buy a replacement for it----however napa sells the rebuild kit for them(actually all boosters)----brothers mechanic at first afraid to try it--later said it one of the easiest things he has done.......
