I just bought the 70 newport for sale here, on its way to me now in California.

Guess I'm back guys! first thing I'm gonna do is rechrome that rear bumper and outs some cragar ss on or stock wheels not sure yet

Congratulations on your purchase! Definite "yea" on the rechroming of the rear bumper. Who knows, it may look okay once stripped? I personally would give a "ney" to the cragars. While they look good of your fury Avatar, I don't think they would look right on the Chrysler. Enjoy your new car!

yeah , maybe youre right. open to wheel recommendations, stock? or...
wanna see pics here.

thanks

Before rechroming, which is gonna cost a pretty penny,
I’d wait to see how the Newport looks with road wheels. While chrome IMHO does look better, I may be in the minority that does not dislike the current bumper in that color. If you go original wheels, though, then I’d rechrome for sure.

Have you looked at the wheels thread?

Glad it found a good home! Looking forward to seeing pics of it in the future. Personally I don’t think you can go wrong with stock wheels and hubcaps and some white walls.

Wow, that "wheels" thread is exhaustive! I insist on whitewalls, and have several sets of 80's fifth ave steel 15x7's. They fill the wheelwells better than the original 15x6's and will accept stock wheelcovers. I actually really like the look of the plain wheel with fresh black paint and chrome lug nuts, not sure why, it just works. Only pic I have. '70 Newprot convertible.

yeah, gonna rechrome the rear bumper for sure, thanks.

also thanks for the wheels thread, was helpful.

I may go stock with 1 inch white walls and 69 newport hubcaps, we'll see.

cant wait to receive the car, keep you guys posted.

This picture, from an eBay ad of CE43L0C152201 (another Newport currently for sale), shows you how nice your car could look with "just" the original wheels and WW tires.Look forward to seeing your car all prepped!

@BAD69FURY, the initial ad by @canuck62, back in July 2018, stated that the car needed an exhaust. If you need one, I'll be very interested in your experience sourcing an original one.

nice I like it!

can anyone tell me the factory size wheel tire size is for my 70?

I'm thinking of getting coker tires steel wheels 15x6 5x4 1/2 3.75 back spacing with 225/75/15 american classic radial tires with 1.6inch white walls.

Is this setup correct?

thanks

You're going to want to get 235/75/15's. 1.6 inch seems a little big, would still look good though. Closer to one inch would be more appropriate? I'm not sure what was factory correct for '70, '71 had two approximately 1/4 inch white bands about a 1/4 inch apart. And I'm not sure about the back spacing, but if you're going for Coker's I would suggest going for 15x7's. 15x6's are correct, but they look too tucked in to the body. 15x7's widen the track.

The wheels on 70 Newports were *15x5 1/2``, the closest tire size is 235/75R15 and the standard side walls were black with both RWLs and WSWs offered as options. What I can find, the last of those did mean two narrow stripes on the side wall of each tire, though I can´t find absolute measurements for them.

The only way to get any dual white stripe tires is to provide reference pictures for Diamondback, which has an arguable reputation and takes a nice sum of money.

* If the car was equipped with the trailer towing package, the wheels were 15x6``.

Congratulations! I'm sure it is going to a good home.

Pretty sure 4.5 and think 5 was Imperial only. I'm sure someone here will correct me if I'm wrong.
4.5.

I have the set of wheels and tires, as well as the wheel covers, that were on my Newport when I bought it. If someone would be interested, we can talk a deal.

Oh man, you didn't wait for my PM!!!

:poke:

He's itching! They might even show up before the car! Hey Snotty, not to nitpick, but have to ask, while admiring the picture of your car, I am wondering should it have front fender stainless wheel opening trim? My '70 Newport convertible didn't have any when I bought it, it has screw holes though.
