Hello,

First time poster here so forgive me if I break any sort of forum etiquette. I recently just picked up a 66 Newport 2DRHT. It’s in awesome shape and I’m super excited on it.

The only thing is that the hood springs are missing and the PO installed a regular hood bar. I would be ok with the bar if the hood wasn’t at least 80 lbs. couldn’t seem to find anything online that was specific aside from used hinges with springs for way too much money. Anyone have info or know where to get a set?

Thanks in advance for helping me avoid hood decapitation.

Are you sure the PO removed the hood springs? In 66 your car would have a torsion bar style hood spring. Not a coil type that you would find on other makes. Could you post a picture of the upper fire wall area to see if you still have the torsion bars. I can post a picture for you if you can’t.

Hmm... maybe that’s the problem and why I couldn’t find anything. I’ll take a look in the AM. It’s currently shoehorned in the garage. Ah the life of a massive classic car.

Here's a picture of what your hood springs should look like - they run across at the firewall. If they've been removed or sprung from their load, the hood will not stay up. If they're still there and just sprung out of position, it's a bit of a task to get them back in place, but it can be done. One end is fixed in place, and the other end is twisted until it's underneath the hood arm. The springs desire to release is what holds the hood up.

Anyhow, I have a complete set if you need them.

Oh yeah, I definitely don’t have that under my hood.

Also if that’s your bay, that is incredible.
I’m certainly interested in getting them from you provided that shipping makes sense.
