Need input on how a car buyer from Europe can register a car for use in the U.S. before shipping it.

I have a buyer from Germany for my '87 Fifth Avenue who wants to register the car so that he and his friends can spend 3-4 weeks travelling the east coast and attend some drag week events before they have the car shipped back to Europe.

In Connecticut, where I live, it seams that you can only register a car including get temporary or transport plates if you have a Connecticut address.

Anyone deal with this issue before and have any suggestions on how the buyers of my car can get plates and insurance on it here in the U.S.? The insurance companies also want an in state address to write the insurance.

The car is not currently registered and I really don't want to register it in my name and have people I don't know driving it all over for several weeks for liability reasons.

Thanks.

CT also requires a CT driver's license to register a car in CT so a PO Box alone won't work.

In Az you’d just go to 3rd party to register it. These places are shady and great, kind of like a check cashing place. I’ve had paperwork so jacked up it could’ve been covered in blood and smoldering and it wouldn’t matter. They accept anything. If you don’t have 3rd party DMV providers locally check with AAA. Sometimes they will help you register a car for a fee of about $60 -$100. If you’re in a bind paperwork wise they can be a good avenue of help (for a fee).

Sadly, no options like that in Connecticut or the surrounding states.
