Wonder how cool that engine sounds while you're rowing thru the gears? That "hillside hemi" sounds very nice I bet!!

I like the car. I've wanted a "toad" for quite a while now, but never found one where the stars aligned so it's never happened.

A couple things bother me... The conversion to the 4 speed is OK. It makes sense. The red stripe? Not so much. The scoop? WTF? Why would you do this? It just looks stupid six ways from Sunday.

As I understand it, the Hyper Pak was a dealer option. Everything I've ever read has said that. If there was a factory version, I would expect it to have the aluminum engine block, but there's no mention and I don't see the word "Special" cast in the head. So, the seller hasn't come out and said exactly what the pedigree is on this car, but he's also leading you on a bit with his description.

The Hyper Pak also included cast iron headers, a special cam and high compression pistons. No mention of headers, aside from the manifold and carb, that's something I would expect to see on a true Hyper Pak equipped car.

Honestly, I think it's a fairly nice, overpriced car that someone has "hot rodded" and added the 4bbl intake too. I have no idea what is up with the speedo, but while the Canucks weren't metric, there were other parts of the world that was, so I would say that's some sort of export deal. The fact that it's conveniently disconnected speaks volumes.

This guy's a flipper. He found the car, cleaned it up and now is trying to make a killing on it.

John: I'm right there with ya on your desire for a "toad." I too have always wanted one with the 383 HP two four-barrel setup and the Clay Smith solid lifter cam. Like the Hyper-Pak, I think this setup was a dealer option package too. Of course, a 413 toad with the two four barrel ram intake would do just as well, but I think the 383 HP toad is somewhat more rare.

EDIT: I'm sorry for the confusion. The toad I'm talking about is not the Valiant / Lancer. Its the Belvedere / Dart body car.

John, We should talk come July. Ah fellow named Doug Dutra haz re-popped both the dual exhaust and the hyper pac quad bore intake many yearz ago. Sold everything AND the rights to manufacture hiz designz to Clinton out in SoCal probably 20 yearz ago. I still have one of Doug's cast iron castings for the back 3 cylinders when he waz still selling those back in the '80s when we was sellin' 'um with the instructions on how to "band saw" off the back 3 of the "candelabra" /6 exhaust and cap it of to use with hiz cast iron rear 3 exhaust. I still have the aluminum intake for the /6 to mount 3 side draft Weberz too. I just have never found a '65 Formula S 4speed to convert from 273 to ah /6. I'M STILL LOOKIN' TOO lol, Jer

From what I read, Clifford isn't producing the manifolds any more and the ones they did were junk.

BTW, I have a '65 Formula S... Not a 4 speed though... I don't see me doing a /6 conversion though LOL!

Clinton? Clifford? I knew it waz ah C-word. Don't get old John, Too many thingz stop workin' right and the memory iz just the tip of the iceberg. The day'z comin' when I won't even be able to find Carlisle. I knew you had that '65 "S" John, best year of the 1st generation IMHO. Yours iz Too pretty for my grubby handz, but then I'd be lookin' for ah 4 spd. bell housing too. AH THE SICKNESS lol, Jer

It does look like the cast header is there, but as Big John says above, no indication of it's originality. How would the Hyper-Pak have been a dealer installed option? Did they replace the whole engine or just add the headers and intake?

Another thing that's confusing about the ad is that the seller's "cut and past" description mentions the 170, but this car has 225 all over it.

I do love the concept of a hot rodded slant 6.
