Hi, I go to Shorpy.com because I like the old photos. I just came across this website and thought it was pretty cool because it's all about cars.

Detroit Michigan: Grand River Avenue Street Scene | The Old Motor

This is a pretty cool pic from Detroit in 65 with the 61 Imperial and the 64 New Yorker out in front.

Great photos. Funny how every man driving the cars is in a suit, shirt and tie, some even have hats on! My wife was just complaining to me today that the young girls come to work in Lycra workout clothes and the young men come to work in shorts and t-shirts. Another reason (besides Amazon) that retail stores are in trouble...people just don't buy proper work clothes anymore.

[QUOTE="GregG48203, I also appreciate that the Beetle is the only foreign car.[/QUOTE]

In Detroit, during that era, if one drove a foreign car they would be regarded about the same as a communist.

Should I tell 'um Will that that logic held true for ALL THE BIG THREE ASSEMBLY PLANT PARKING LOTS TOO. Back then it waz buy what you build or find another job. Still makes sense but? Jer

That's what happenz when you get too much rain in a short period of time in the desert. I've seen the same thing happen in Buckeye, Arizona west of Phoenix tho' not recently, Jer

Hey Jer, Buckeye AZ borders on my hood of Waddell. Do a lot of shopping in Buckeye!

Hey Chris. I can't remember exactly when I saw it happen out there, '77- '78 -'79. I'd picked up a 56' Chris Craft In Pompano Beach, Fl. and headed west to deliver it in Costa Mesa, Ca. Straight shot across I-10 rite? 'Til I go into Phoenix that iz. It waz getting dark so I cut north a couple miles to camp out at the 76 "at that time" rite on the west side of I-17. Nice little Water Hole + Restaurant on the back side of that Truck Stop back then too. The news that evening was all about the wall of water that came south out of the hills, took out a dry wash bridge along with ah bunch of Hi-way with it. Needless to say I dropped south in the morning, picked up I-8 and ran it over to 95 and then back up to I-10 and on to the left coast. But the images on the TV that night I still remember. UGGLY, Jer

It was probably the winter of 79-80 Jer. Bad flooding that year. Washed out many bridges over the Salt river. Kind of isolated Phoenix from the suburbs. Since then we have more and better bridges. And no heavy rainstorms anymore either.

I'll take your word for that one Pal. I waz hauling BIG BOATS all over the contiguous 48 those 3 yearz and It all starts running together after 40 yearz. Late January of '80 I'd picked up a 'custom 54'er In Kelso, Wa. S.W of Tacoma and headed for Bay Shore, N.Y. 'bout an hour out on "the Isle of Long" Got to Sioux Falls, S.D. fueled up and pulled back out and when I looked back in my left mirror the left rear outside on the wagon was down and separated from the wheel. (Side Bar) They're are truck stops out there that will not allow you to fuel your self and this place was one of those. So the rules are If they fuel you it's their responsibility to thump ALL your tires. That didn't happen in this case so I was more then ah bit upset. Swung back into the other approach round in back and Backed up to one of the truck bays and came down out of my rig and moved too fast. Almost slammed my head in the bottom of the closing door and had to pivot quickly to prevent it from happening. Resulting in my tearing the cartilage in my right knee and ultimately having surgery on that knee and selling my rig with only 7 payments left on it because rehab. waz 5 months back then. And I had $1000 tractor which iz pin money by todays standards. That K100 Kenworth cost $40K NEW back in '76. Same truck specked out the same way today would be close to 4 times that. BTW, I got that Pump Jockey fired over that incident too for not doing his job and I don't feel bad at all for doing that. Jer

I bet the nice little restaurant and truck stop you mention was the old Roadrunner Cafe and Truck Stop. Very popular place back in the day.
