‘68 Polara. First road trip in 31 years.

She's a beauty, Marty!! Stopped by the car yesterday but you were likely walking the swaps. See you today I hope.

Man she looks beautiful. Have a great trip, you deserve it.

Great story, thanks for sharing. It's always fun to hear about and see pictures of a road trip!

On my way back to Fargo now. Good show and Great C body turn out.
Rained really good last night and at least washed the pollen off. I have one small leak in my trunk. I expect it is my trim around the vinyl top. I couldn’t find replacement clips with the foam gasket. I used the old clips with a mastic washer. I think one is leaking on the left side. Very small amount, but need to check it out.

Any way am only an hour and 1-1/2 from home now. Filled up with gas. At 12.4 mpg at 75 mph. At 80 I get a little buffeting or vibrating towards the front of the car. I do have a little headwind though.
Pic from a quick rest stop. Sorry no time for scenic pictures. Am trying to get home before all the bugs come out at dusk. The last 40 miles is all small lakes and slews.

She looks great! Tell me this; how does she ride/drive now compared to how you remember? I'm sure the slop is gone but does it bring back the memories?

It took a little while to get used to the active steering again after driving modern vehicles. If you death grip the wheel you will be all over the road. Basically two fingers on the spoke to make minor corrections is all you need. It probably doesn’t wander as much as it used to with new bushings and suspension parts. With a cross wind while passing semi’s you better hang on regardless. It is like a sail.
The ride is pretty smooth, and not much bouncing over over bumps. I am still figuring out the body roll on corners. I don’t think I’m quite ready to slam it into corners yet.

Back home now. 580 miles round trip with no issues. So far about 800 miles since it has been on the road. Only issues I had in the first 200 mile was each of my front shocks had to be tightened again. Not sure if the lock nuts are worn out If I didn’t get them tight enough the first time to compensate for the new paint to wear down. They haven’t come loose in the last 600 miles.

Awesome! I am thrilled it was such an uneventful trip and I hope you get to make many, many more road trips in this beauty in the coming years. I agree with so many others here who have said it looks great. It really does!

I hope to be able to do this someday. Congratulations!

It was nice to see the car, I wish I had been able to get to the show earlier, but I soaked up as much as I could before you took off. Love the color, it shines in the sunlight!

I washed the bugs off tonight and found my leaks. Lower bottom corner of rear window. Has a tiny leak, but it is getting on the corner of my package tray. Not good. Also found that the front window is leaking from the glass groove in the bottom. The instructions said to put a little sealer in the groove, and run a bead on the glass and seal. I asked the installer when he did it and he said he never does it on truck windshields that use seals. I think his comment also was that I probably won’t drive it in the rain anyway? WTF! Am I supposed to stop under a bridge anytime it starts raining when driving?
Need to give them a call tomorrow and get it fixed.

I had the same issue on a '67 Fury back in the eighties...replacement windshield was thinner than the original. It rattled around in the gasket over large bumps. I found a thin flowable sealant and stopped about 80% of the water coming in.
Piss-ant aftermarket glass. :BangHead:

When the directions on the window seal and from the service manual tell you to seal the front side of the glass to the seal, maybe there’s a reason.
I don’t think I can blame after market glass for leaks just yet when they don’t follow directions. Hey but what do I know I am not a glass installer and the people writing the instructions ( 50 years ago and today) must be morons and don’t know what they are talking about.

Yea, you just spent a decade or so making a car as close to factory fresh perfect as possible... probably better than. It's fine if the windows leak... that was a factory option, right?

Congrats on a great job! Love the color combo, but I am bias.....Gig'em Aggies!

I avoid going in the rain with my Monaco which had a new windshield installed for the same reason and have searched for years for the source of the leak but to no avail. I think you may have just identified my issue as well. Thanks I guess. Please keep us up to date on what happens when you do the fix.

Repost of highlighted instructions right side up. Both FSM and aftermarket say to use sealer on the glass.
FSM says apply it to the glass channel. Aftermarket says to the glass face and groove.
