Hello all, I've had a 1973 Dart, 1970 split grill SS Camaro, and a 1973 Nova. But this is my first c body mopar. 1964 300k 413/727. I came across this a few days ago and had to get it. I'd honestly like to know if anyone has seen it around before (previous owner didn't have it very long and was a little clueless on it). But apparently it came from CA(I purchased it in ATL). I definitely plan on going for a "pro touring" style build!

Welcome, you don't see those every day! That body style benefits from wider wheels like you have IMO. More pics please when you can.

Hey there, consider me one of those rare 64 owners. I have a 64 New Yorker. Pretty much the same body as yours, just 4 doors instead of two, grill is a bit different, couple other cosmetic things, but it's the same body and frame.

Just to confirm, 64 was definitely NOT a C body. Lord knows I had to do enough research when it came to buying parts to learn that the hard way. Like Kevin said, it was considered a full size, kind of an odd ball body designation, but parts are adaptable to it depending.

For instance I did a Front Disc Brake conversion on mine and the steering knuckles are different from a C body, but I found parts to make it work after lengthy research and a horrible back and forth with SSBC (which surprised me). I also had to get a custom dual exhaust made for mine because there were no headers that would fit and TTI's exhaust systems are made for C bodies, so that wouldn't work either.

Ultimately I love mine and it's my first classic car. Hope you enjoy yours too.

Thanks Mike, that helps alot. That's actually the first thing I plan to do is a disc conversion, I just can't find the right parts parts. Any advice would be awesome. Also if you know what steering components work as in power steering pump(got a super bad leak)

Never really paid much attention to this body style before, but dang you sure have a sharp example there!

Drew,

Great lookin car, seriously. As far as the Disc Brakes go, I went with Scarebird www.scarebird.com, but I had to learn through trial by fire and taking a chance. I emailed him and asked him for a kit for my 64 and he didn't think he had the specs or kit at that time. Through my research I found that the Dodge 880 model of the same year had the same steering knuckles, so I took a chance and ordered that kit:

1963-64 Chrysler, Dodge 880 front disc

In review of his website now, it looks like the kit below it for 1963 C bodies (although they are NOT C bodies as we've come to learn) is essentially the same kit. Regardless, the laser cut grade 8 steel plate that both come with bolted right up to my knuckle. If you click into the Dodge 880 kit, he recommends some other random parts you'll need to order along with his kit and they do fit. Granted, you'll find some guys on here that are leery of mixing and matching parts, but mine works perfectly. I got the remaining parts off Rockauto and Ebay. Saved me from spending a crap ton on some of the bigger brake company names.

As for the Power Steering Pump, I bought a gasket kit off Ebay, just type in your car and look them up, but chances are it's a bad gasket(s). Simple fix with a socket wrench. I would take the whole thing apart and inspect it, that's what I did and just remember/take pics of how it goes back together. You can also find a new power steering hose if that's where the leak is coming from. Turning those tanks without power steering can be a bear sometimes.

Hope this helps.

Mike

No first hand personal knowledge but I know someone that used 5th Ave spindles on a 62 300 which I believe has the same front end as your 64. I think he had to mix and match some tie rod ends and ball joints to make it work. A set of Cordoba caliper adapters allows you to run the bigger 11.75 rotors.

I love that body style.
This one here was one of my favorites at Mopars in the Park, 4 door though.

Although mine is not in as good a shape as yours is, I get TONS of looks and compliments at car shows, bike week, driving around, etc. You hit the nail on the head though, it's not common. With the Slab Sides, I see way more early and late 60's models than mid. Kind of an odd transitional period to the C body design, but that's what makes it unique. Coincidentally also what makes it a pain in the *** to find the parts. Although most will tell you, that's half the fun!

Go to any car show, how many vettes, stangs, cudas, roadrunners, chargers, challengers, etc. do you see? Plenty. You don't see too many 64 Hard Top Salons. Even keeping it on a local level, you'll see way more 300's for our year.
