So my cable broke at the pedal end. I have a parts car to rob one off of, but how goes it come out of the firewall? What held it in the pedal? Cant see anything on the floor that broke off and the hole doesn't look slotted. The parts car isn't nearby and want to be prepared when I go. Thanks in advance.

Most as I remember had a steel nub at the end of the cable that fit thru a slot in the gas pedal linkage. Your nub has probably broken off the end of the cable. If you look carefully there was a rubber plug on the pedal linkage that held the nub in place.

Thanks for your reply. My eyes aren't what they used to be. LOL

I will grab a couple of pictures. On my ‘68 Polara the ball end of the cable is secured in the pedal with a plastic plug to keep it from coming out. Remove the plastic plug and the cable will come free from the foot feet mechanism. Then there is the c- clip to remove and it should feed into the engine compartment.

Thanks a ton! How does the plug come off? The steel ball is slotted then?

The little plastic plug is just a push pin. You May be able to push it out from the back side, or slide a small flat screw driver under the head. Mine popped in and out pretty easily.

The steel ball goes into the slot on the pedal. I hook my cable up to the carb before I hook it to the pedal, but I don't have the plug on mine anymore.
