Anyone know the height difference between the early style dual snorkel and the later style?
 
Isn’t there some need to have height between the carb top and the bottom of the air cleaner? I think if you drop the base too much the air doesn’t flow around the tight corner as well and you give up power.

Of course, I have no idea if you gain more by the taller manifold than you lose by squeezing the corner.

Not sure. No worse or better than when it was stock. I cannot keep my foot out of it.

The stock single snorkel is VERY close to the hood, as is my drop-base aftermarket one. Although i have to run a 1/2" thick spacer to clear the mechanical secondary throttle shaft cam.

I believe that the early '70's style uses a slightly shorter air cleaner but don't know the exact differences.

The Mancini drop down base is smaller in diameter than the top. It is essentially the same size as the non-snorkel open bottom air cleaner therefore you are getting fresh air through the snorkels and getting fresh air in through the bottom of the air cleaner. You use a smaller diameter air cleaner element but stay with the same height element so there are no tight corners. Keep in mind that you are just lowering how the air cleaner sits on the carb and while there is more of a corner, there is also more air volume that more than compensates. If someone wants maximum air flow and does not care about appearance, a K & N style filter top air cleaner is the best way to go.
 
From my research in the distant past on here and other forums on intake manifolds I remembered a few worried about hood clearance with an after market intake manifold. A few recommended the Holley Strip Dominator Intake Manifold. Not because it was the best flowing of all the major offerings but it's height was much lower than the others.

Advertised height of both.

Holley front 4.13 rear 5.25
Edelbrock rpm front 4.90 rear 5.80

Edelbrock states the rpm manifold is 1.75 inches higher than stock.

In Hot Rod tests the Holley did not perform as well as the Edelbrock but it is lower and is a good bit better than any factory cast iron intake.

Ok ,just an update for anyone interested. Machinist said block is perfect and a virgin. He also agreed to go 440 Source. I called them and spoke with Brandon who seemed to be very knowledgeable. Basically told him what I wanted for my 69 Fury which in a nutshell is good vacuum,not alot of lope,something that my wife can ride in ,keep highway gears ,run on pump gas all day in the summer hot months,use HP cast iron exhaust manifolds, look stock, goes like stink,bla bla bla,,.
He suggested basically the same setup as I was zeroing in on. 512 stroker kit with Stealth heads with their many piston design offerings. He would recommend to me a piston head combo with 10.3 to 1 compression ratio and said it could run on 91 pump gas. I then asked him is this kind of setup rather rare with the pump gas , civilized idle ,high vacuum and HP exhaust manifolds? He said no and it is really popular these days. As far as cam recommendations go he thought [and warned pricey] a roller would be best to compensate a bit for the exhaust manifolds and was specific. He recommended Comp Cams 1451711 for my application. He also said I would lose 35 hp or so using the HP manifolds over headers. With this combo he said would make 550 hp and 575 torque on pump gas all day long without detonation. So with headers that would put it over 600 hp and torque which I have seen or read about on various forums,so that sounds realistic to me. He agreed it will all be over by 5500 rpm's or so.
Since I still have time I will be only ordering the stroker bottom end kit with the stealth heads and maybe a few other things and when it is nearing completion I hope to have the ammo [education] to order a cam ,intake ,carb etc.
Kinda worried about the Comp Cams roller but he assured me they are very reliable especially in my application and would help the HP's flow.
My machinist said to not get H beam rods and get I beam instead. If I remember correctly they are lighter and the H beams would be overkill. I will ask him to clarify when I see him again.
That's all I got for now. Got any thoughts ? Let me know ,,thanks.

I had bad luck with comp cams hydraulic roller lifters. Comp cams hydraulic roller lifter failure
I talked to the 440 source guys about my lifter failure and they recomended chris straub at straub technologies. He ground me a cam and sold me morrel lifters. Basically the same price. See my post about his cam
 
Yes I remember reading that. Which roller Comp Cam were you using specifically? Was it their highest lift roller cam? In seeing your video I think I remember your car shifts at about 5600 is that correct ?

The straub is larger, but somehow makes more power every where.

The new straub cam pulls to higher RPM, i am swapping in the A&A transmision 6300RPM governor to take advantage of the increased redline. The recent video i posted DID NOT have the new governor installed. The kit i got has 4 additional springs to fine tune the shift points

Suggest you get cam input from Dwayne Porter. IDK about 91 Octane, 93 yes.
Mine is 10.3ish CR and runs on whatever pump premium we have in eastern WA state, i am not sure if its 91 or 93
