For Sale The Famous 4-speed...

Tough question...
Lemme take a stab at it.
When it left me, the exterior needed to be worked on next. Presently, it's gonna take a lot of more than it's worth. The neglect crossed the line of reasonable return.
Interior: the vinyl has become very discolored.
Mechanically, it "appears" OK but I wasn't there.
IF it was given back to me as it is now, I would just cruise locally with it and not invest any money into it. Use it. Enjoy it. Don't obsess over it.

Zac, HowTF could you forget about the A/C??

It's a 4-5 grand car.
Even at half the asking, I'd be surprised if he would sell. Owned it for a year? I guess he bought out the last flipper. I wonder what he paid?

The 4 speed has killed this car. Too many purchasers who didn't love her for what she is, and thought they had a beater 4 speed B body.
At least nobody has tried to build a wing/nose cone for her.

How many bought it thinking it was factory built this way?

I'm guessing none, but could easily be wrong given the amount of stupidity this car attracts. IIRC, I think the Lakeland/Carlisle Auction flipper tried to pass it off as factory.

I'd like to know ( but never will) how many owners have had this car since Stan and what each one paid.

There was at least one for sale ad IIRC that claimed it was a factory build.

So how many if any buyers thought it was? Are / is anyone really paying ten grand for this car? Perhaps when it left Stans hands but then it was as good as it gets.

My position has been provided to seller. Not a penny more, or less. No meeting of the minds can be reported yet. I do not know what it last tranacted at. I am saddened a bit at its condition now .. its not remotely a five digit car in its current condition.

Others have said it .. Stan's car was never gonna be worth more than what he sold it for originally. Had it been improved along the way, it may have retained more of that original value/gained a bit.

Ah.. the flippinig ... perhaps each person "raging against the dying of the light" with each flip, trying to recover their gravity-defying payments of an asset rapidly depreciating from apparent neglect.

All that to say -- I STILL like this car. I STILL want it for exactly what it is. Cool, old-school, "rare" - a throw back to an era when the factory DID build them this may. Heck, its something I would have had done had I thought of it/had any skiills back in the day

However, I fear I cannot save it from what is has become .. but we'll see. More to come.

Love the vids, thanks Zac for your efforts.
It’s a very unique car and now I wish it was a 4-door hdtp even more.

At the seller's asking price, this is one of the few times I could say that you can build one for that price. In fact, you could probably do it with a better car and have better results.

The appeal to me would be that Stan worked out all the details of doing the conversion. That part fascinates me. I was impressed when I first read about it and I'm still impressed. The car, in the condition it's in now, not so much.

To me, this is a $5000 car tops. It's a $1500 car with $3500 worth of interesting work done to it. Doing the necessary (for everyone's sanity) hood change, finding some better wheels would add to the price. The unknown is the cost undoing whatever questionable mechanical work done since it left Stan's hands.

Don’t say it, dude. If not bought by someone here, that’ll be next.

Thank you, John.
You're embarrassing me.

After all this years, the car is still in the limelight, for good or bad. I'm very surprised at that.
For good or bad.

I really had no idea what to expect when going to view it. Obviously knew what it was, and it’s history, but as known it’s been around a bit.

The only real “surprise” to me was the passenger quarter. I wasn’t expecting that.

I fully agree it’s not a 5 digit car, but still a bad *** ride. I’d be thrilled to own it. The car isn’t “that” gone. She needs a couple patch panels, some paint, and a little mechanical going over.

What did the owner have to say when you told him a hundred of us know the history and been following the car when it surfaces. LOL.

:usflag:

I'm always fascinated when I come across a thread or a for sale listing on this ol girl...... great job getting up close and personal this time- good read. Sadly it looks like someone left it parked in the grass under a tree for the last couple years

Stan, I mean you know.... you’ve been talking a little crazy lately. Like mustang kind of crazy. Idk if you know or not, but this one does have a third pedal..... LOL

I’m just saying....
