Guys, I am considering getting a newer car, something maybe from the late 80s to 2000. I want something sporty with a manual tranny. Anyone got any suggestions on Mopars? Does anything in that time frame even fit this criteria?

I will await the hate mail.

There were a bunch of 4 and 5 speed manual trans-axles across a wide variety of models:
A-460 4 speed manual trans-axle '81-'86
A-465 5 speed manual TA '83-'84
A-525 5 Speed manual TA '84-'90
A-520 5 speed manual TA '87-'89
A-555 5 speed manual TA '87-'89
A-523 5 speed manual TA '90-'94
A-543 5 speed manual TA '90-94
A-565 5 speed manual TA '90-93
A-578 5 speed manual TA '95-05 Neon
T-850 5 speed manual TA '01-07

Maybe a Neon SRT, a roller skate but quick.

Mark, I have been SCOURING this category for over a year now.
I want to drag home a pathetic, unloved, buzz bomb with a manual to beat the piss out of and then roll it into the crusher and get back maybe a couple of hundred bucks. I'm NOT fixing anything anymore anytime!
Good luck with the search, if I find anything in your area, I'll msg. you.

No hate mail here. I got sucked in but escaped unscathed and better off.

Back in the 80’s almost 90’s I bought a late 80’s Shelby Charger (almost) new and (almost) free. It wouldn’t pass Az emissions so the dealer dumped it on me with some waiver paperwork. I got it to pass with clear paint - don’t ask... and then the adventure began.

Fun - sadness - fun - terrible sadness - lots of fun - crushing sadness - not so fun anymore - traded for ‘69 Dart to get a 383 ‘68 Fury convertible - good times roll again.

I learnt my lesson hope you have as much fun learning yours. I sure wouldn’t do it again but I’m glad I did.

I do have to admit a few months back I stopped and looked at a Shelby GLH charger up by Bishop Ca. It’s a sickness...

Well i thought abt something even newer but nothing really attracts me from 2000 on......in any marque. I do love the 94-96 caprices but they are automatics.

I’ve been looking into a 86 Daytona Shelby or even a Chrysler Laser. Nice balance between old and new.
Maybe a Dodge Stealth? But that’s more of just a Japanese car with a American logo on it.

Agreed on the Stealth.....have not seen a Laser in a long time.....good idea.

I’m on the hunt currently for a smaller, 2 door mopar from the late 70s to early 90s that has some zip to it and has modern creature comforts. Also something that won’t break the bank. You can only do so much with a 70s car that is 19’ long.

It was a dark era for performance Chrysler’s at that time until about 2006.
If you go alittle father back I suppose you could even look into a 70s Magnum? Might not be what you’re looking for

You consider the mustard GT. I bought two both are long gone now, 94GT conv, stolen - 2002GT conv, bent into an L by a red light runner. Boy they were little fun cars. V8 stick burnout machines. I even remember Hi Performance Mopar wrote an article about them being the most roadrunner like car of the 80’s.

I tell you what if you can find an unmodified one for sale buy it as they are fun, come in convertible or hardtop and they are dirt cheep. Forget about pre ‘94 that ships sailed but after that they’re practically free. I’ve seen clean nice 2000ish GT convertibles going between 2 -3 grand out here. Just my 2 cents worth. Happy hunting!!!

I always forget about those cars. It was just a rebranded Mitsubishi 3000gt, right? If so, then they probably had a twin turbo version. But I have no idea what they sell for.

agree. mustang gt only. rock solid drive trains and electronics. very dependable. drive comfortably 25-100 mph. o.e. convertible top will last the life of the vehicle. non gt v6 engine was junk.

Since you guys are talking Mustangs I agree that a 5.0 is a solid platform, especially the last generation of the original 5.0 that was in those cars.

Yup. It was shocking to drive a 4.6 after owning a good 5.0 for so long. I almost pulled over to see if the engine was missing. All I ever did was oil changes, brakes and tires, (lots of tires LoL). Got about 160k on each before they both had their unnatural demise.

My best friend whom I sold a 2001 Dodge Neon RT to new has decided it is time to sell it. He hardly drives it and it hasn't broke a 100000kms yet. Black full load manual with purple ACR Cuda stripe down the side...just sayin :)

94-95 is the only years the 5.0 was used in the sn95 platform in 96 they went to the 4.6l. the old fox body design i think is better looking car. as far as ride goes my 93 5.0 lx sure has a lot rougher ride then my 01 bullitt does.

I didn't know that. I just assumed that the 5.0 was the V8 for the 94-98. I've been in plenty of them but never owned a Mustang. The 5.0 I had was in an SUV. My old man had a '03 Cobra with a 4.6. That thing was a bear.
