So I found what was left of the build sheet in my parts car under the front seat pass side.
Can someone tell me what the #'s mean under axle and sure grip?

For '66 models
404= 3.23 ratio
408= suregrip

40 is the generic rear end, by adding the 3rd digit, in this case 4, the unit is identified as a 3.23 ratio
The 408 is the code for a sure grip. It is present as indicated by the 8 inserted under the code. If there was no sure grip, the box underneath would remain blank. www.mopardealer.com has a lot of useful information on these cars.

Thank you sir! Exactly what I wanted to hear!!!

If the rear end is original to the car, there should be a tag attached to one of the 3rd member bolts with the gear ratio and the product code for the sure grip. Somewhat problematic though a a car that is over 50 years old as a lot of components may have been replaced over time. Quick check for sure grip, jack one of the rear wheels up, if you can turn it with the park brake off, it is not a sure grip or the unit is toast. If both rear wheels are jacked up, they will both turn the same direction when one or the other is turned if it is a sure grip.

Thanks Dave! The car was a two owner car. A young lady bought it in 66 and paid cash (I have the receipt and original title). Next guy bought it and robbed the motor/tranny and I got it from him. I'll get the rear end out this weekend.

Parts or a resto project?
