So the fittings that the trans lines attach to on my radiator is trash. The radiator is all aluminum. I am going to try to weld in some new bungs. What I need to know is what is the fitting that threads into radiator? My other car has a fitting with npt on one side and a flared fitting on the other side. The npt side threads into the radiator.

1/4" NPT I believe, lines are 3/8 flare. I usually put a female flare fitting in and use a male flare fitting on the line (like they come from the parts store. The factory setup is a stupid design with no for thought to removing the lines, forcing the mechanic to use a open end wrench on a brass fitting. The way I do it you can get a line wrench on both fittings so you do not have to destroy it.

This is the fitting. It measures 3/8” on the radiator side. Thread pitch looks to be either 27 or 28. None of my thread gauges gives a good match except 10mm-1.0 which is odd.

Stop over tightening the lines to the fittings and then it’s a 5/8” flare nut wrench only.

It's a 45°

I did not tighten it. I'm talking mid 80s trans never out of the car trying to pull the radiator to take it to a shop and have it recored. Chrysler put them in there at the factory it's a piss poor design, even GM got it correct. You can't trap a brass fitting behind a steel fitting.
You must be a lucky MF to be able to get that off without twisting the line and not holding the brass fitting.
Go play the lottery you lucky......
To the OP that's 1/8" NPT not a original style flare fitting.

70BBD, I just walked back in from the shop and found its a 45* flared fitting, with 1/2-20 on the flared side and 1/8npt which gives the 27tpi on the radiator side.

You say this isn't the original fitting? IS this safe to use? what is the correct fitting? This one came out of a 67newport that still had the original radiator.. I say its original it still had the brass bottom tank, that has a split in it.

Those pictured are original and they work fine, he just likes to complain.

It seems small. I thought you said it was aluminum radiator? It has been quite a while since I messed with OE lines and fittings, like I said I swap them. Not OEM for judging but that's not my bag. That male side flare is correct, but what do I know ask 413 he has all the answers. Sorry guy he is involved in this thread, I'm out.

The ones pictured came out of my 67 newport that had an original radiator. I ordered a new radiator for it and have yet to install it so I just grabbed the firings off it for comparison.

Here is the aluminum radiator from my 67 300. This is the flared male fitting that has been stripped. I plan on cutting off the nipple and wedding on a new bung to fit the 1/8"npt type fitting like the newport has. This way both cars should be close to the same.
