Hell, yes. I even thought about this most recently.
Missed your ability to outsmart the old-timers.
Thank you, Stan. You're postings are some of my favorite to read on here. Direct to the point, unrepentant and with a very quick wit.

Meh...I wouldn't do all that, ESP since it's a fuselage car (fuselage cars need no exterior appointments in my eyes)...but yeh, to each his own and I won't bad mouth it.

You're required to have brights in Maine? Or just have the number it came with from the factory?

Ah yaaaaaa. Every State I've been registered in that had state vehicle inspections, Hi & Low beams are tested to be working and for aiming, it's a quick money maker for the shop.

Don't know about Maine, I can count on 1 hand the number of times I've been there but I do know that New Hampshire & Vermont are a ***** with vehicle inspections and NH will fail you even if you have even the littlest rust bubbles showing in the bodywork.

In Massachusetts I had a customer with a less than a year old Chevy pickup that told me about a steering pull problem when I serviced the truck. Sure enough the drag link was shaky with movement that was detectable to the eye, a test drive revealed a pull to the right and I suggested they file a warranty claim with the dealer as increased tire wear was inevitable.

A long round an round for warranty went on with the dealer so much so they printed out the factory service manual showing that the truck was in spec (.125" IIRC not .010" standard).
Long story short, they registered the truck in Vermont at their lakeside house and went to get it inspected, Rejected! Due to drag link shake, I don't know who fixed it but they bought another GMC Yukon? (like Blazer size) with basically the same size frame front end and guess what? aaaYep a redesigned beefier drag link. I guess GM just modified the spec to get out of doing a recall on the millions of trucks they sold back in the late 80's and early 90's, that would be a headline recall IMO.

And that GM Yukon was funny as they ordered it with a plow, one of the new 'Minute Mount' Fishers.... He was showing it to me at the garage around the end of August.
I looked at him and said "let's try this out!" HA HA, conclusion: "Well 'dem minutes must be pretty long up'dar in Maine" I sed. Turns out someone installed it wrong at the dealer and it was jamming up against the front licence plate mount and a few other adjustments I had to make. Good thing we tried it out as it would of been a PITA when when the snow had fallen.

Minute Mount my *** a couple of 4x4 blocks and a pinch bar, easy peasy.

I'm soooooo glad we got rid of the BS inspection system we had. Feel better knowing I don't have to deal with any of that.

I wasn't offended by his comment, people can say some crappy things about a car if it's modified, and say crappy things about the owners too, it happens here all the time. Not saying our members are jerks, just that they have a loud bark at times.

Whatever, maybe one of the purists can get this for a good price and bring it back to it's former glory, stock hood and all.

FWIW... lighting standards start with federal, and then can be tightened up by the state. Lack of enforcement somewhere doesn't mean a pissed off cop can't go to town if they get the urge, and have the knowledge. They may even be within rights to stop you from driving the car to get repairs.

Federal standards are tricky, the DOT markings imprinted are from the manufacturer, so lots of aftermarket "upgrades" are illegal even if the Chinese factory put a DOT stamp on them.
