Does anybody have info on why the passenger seat reclines and driver does not?

The passenger seat has recline but driver seat does not. What is the reasoning? Can it be modified? Was that a government mandated law at the time? Im tempted to change the oe seats to seats from a more modern car because the fit it no good being that im 6'. Also wonder if the other brands like gm and ford had that garbage.

Pretty sure that was to prevent the seat from collapsing in case the driver pulled the wrong lever going down the road.

There's lots of guys over 6 foot (6'2" here) and they fit in the fuselages pretty well.

Are you sure your seat is all the way back? Has someone messed with the mounts?

I'm 6'3, feels kinda tight sometimes. I looked on my seat rails, and noticed there are 3 square holes. Mine were using the middle hole I unbolted it all, and was able to move the seat back about an inch by using the hole towards the fronts on the rails. If that make sense. Helped me a little. Can feel the difference while driving.

It's a question of money. With a little bit extra dollars you get mechanical or electrical adjustments. And that's the way the manufacturer makes profits.

It looks like his is a four door. I've always felt the four doors had less room in front than the two doors .
Bench seats also appear to be tighter than buckets . As you know John I'm about 6'4" and I had two very similar convertibles , one with buckets, one with a bench. The bench was much tighter and much more uncomfortable.

OK, that makes some sense.

In that case, at least in the earlier cars, there are three positions that the seat can be bolted to the floor. As they come from the factory, they are in the middle position. I've moved a couple of them back by knocking out the carriage bolts and placing them in the forward position that lets you push the seat back a little farther.

I'll have to see how the seat back is bolted to the bottom. Maybe I'll drill new mount holes or use a rotary file to make it recline more. Its split bench.

You mentioned it was a split bench, can you add a power base to your seat? I know they are available, but didn't know if they are 6 way like the ones I added to my buckets. I am 6'4" and am very happy with the power seat. The 6 way seat with tilt, I am as comfortable as in any modern car with a power seat. I don't even have it set complete back.

Might be worth looking into. I have a thread for reference, in which I completely restored the power base, pretty logical if you are generally handy.

What was the thread? Did the power setup have recline. The seat goes back and forth I just really need the back to recline a couple inches so I'll probably be able to modify it.

I m certain there were no adjustments on the seat back only.
I've certainly never seen one on the Dodge polara / Monaco

No back recline just offering an option which may get you in a more comfortable position, with the net effect of a reclined back. If you can get a power bench base with tilt, you can get the effect of a reclined back, but of course the front of the seat is higher.

For me personally it is the perfect position, but I only like my seat slightly reclined and the front of the seat higher.

This may be moot if you can't get tilt for a bench seat.

Here is my thread. In the first page there is a video showing the movement of the 6 way power seat. Power seat and 4 channel amp

I already spaced the the front of the seat frame up and have the rear low. I see the carriage bolt areas in the frame and I'm at the rear most position. I think it would be better with a tilt telescope steering wheel like I had in my 70 town and country.

the rear most position would move the seat forward.

As I recall AMC was the only one with reclining seatbacks on both seats back then. They seemed big on sleeping/camping in your car.
