Good Afternoon FCBO,

I was replacing my radiator in my 67' 300 today and I decided to pull off a valve cover and see what the casting numbers on my heads were. I was hoping for the 915 closed chamber heads but that is not what I found.

Instead I found the numbers 2406518. I had never seen those numbers before so I had to look them up. Well after extensive research I found out that the heads are from a 426 Max Wedge. Apparently they are the later stage 3 castings. They have all the correct markings and rocker towers.

So I went to Ebay to see if I could find a pair for sale and I couldn't find any.

Can any of the guru's on here give me an idea of what these things are worth? I don't believe they have any cracks in them and they are in good shape.

Thanks for looking.

Easy enough to determine...

1. Confirm the casting is in fact 518 and not the expected 516.

2. Measure the exhaust valves. 518 = 1.88. 516 = 1.6

3. Check the casting dates on the heads.

4. Proceed from there......

They are most definitely 518 castings

Ok. Casting date?
I guess this may seem like a stupid question but where is the casting date located? There is the number "11295" screwed into the head on the intake side on a plate but that doesnt seem like a date code to me.

Edit: I'll check the front of the head but i'll have to get all the grime off it.

I might have to eat my words. The more i look at it, the more is looks like a 6. I dont know why someone would put 518 heads on a chrysler 300. I kind of resembles an "8" but i think i have my doubts.

It's a 6, and those are mighty wimpy springs for a '518 head. Now how am I gonna get my blood pressure back down??

The easiest way to know is if the rockers appear straight, like plain rockers.... a '518 head would have offset rockers, with pushrods moved over to clear those enormous ports.

Sometimes, casting numbers can be a bit "soft", so "6" might be an "8", or similar. Sometimes, have to look closer or even get a tracing. In this case, other things would have had to have been present for it to have been an "8".

It was fun while it lasted!

It also has the heat cross over, apparently the 518s didnt.

So back to my previous question. How much are 518 heads worth.

If anyone is looking I have a set of Stage III heads. I also have the intake with the carb linkage, but without carbs. I brought them out to Carlisle last year, but never got them out of the car to sale.
