Cause of weak spectator turnout at Carlisle?

Personally I'm left to wonder if the weather Wednesday or Thursday with the heavy rain didn't scare off some folks.

I saw photos of it and immediately thought "glad I couldn't go".

Also with our weak dollar at the moment I know quite a few local and other Canadian Mopar guys who didn't make the journey

If weather scares you off from a event like Carlisle you are not really a Mopar guy/or gal. A lot of crappy weather could discourage a racing event but that's not there, as soon as it stops raining the crowd comes right back out.
I could see the low exchange rate being a issue.

I have attended this event almost every year since it started in the mid 90's..... it has definitely evolved from flea market with a small fun field/casual car show attached to vice versa. Crowds in the parts market aren't what they used to be, but enough vendors were in attendance, and I DID pick up a few things...……

Mostly though, I was glad to meet several of you for the first time, AND see your fine cars. The C-body turnout was quite good I thought, great representation. As far as weather goes, well, it IS July so you can only expect so much. The shade canopy is always one of the first things I pack. I always hope for a Thursday night storm to cool things down for a couple days, and we had just that this year, and am thankful. Humidity was not unbearable, all in all I call it a "good year" at the Chrysler Nationals...….

First year 1992

The heat certainly wasn't as bad as some years. I think in 2012 it was 104 on Thursday and they had a huge rain storm flood the place for a few hours the same weekend. Mid to high 80's with the breeze they had wasn't bad.

I believe the heat index was 114 that year. I was getting heat cramps in my legs.

I've been to many shows in the rain.

The question was about spectators. How many folks will drive a few hours without a car to enter to see cars in the rain?

I've been vending the last year or so and the last swap meet in June it rained on us, having attended that show every year since 2012, I can honestly say it was the lowest turn out I can remember.

The real problem is there is a hole in the classic car market. There are no Chrysler products that were made in the 80s that appeal to the 30 something's that will be prepping for empty nest longing for what was a used car when they were kids. Let's be honest the cars of the 80s we're very disposable. When they got these cars as used up POS it not much to have a car not worth fixing pretty quick. There is definitely going to be a dead spot in the swap side in the next 10 years. Hope all you old guys hang on long enough till my kids generation takes over restoring 2005 300s

You could say the same about GM which had a lot of duds in that time frame. Same with Ford. Then throw in the buy back of some years ago which seemed to eliminate many cars from the 80s and early 90s by sending them straight to crushing whole.

I don't know what show you guys are even talking about. I never seen soo many cars or people. As mentioned the swap meet was sold out....I've seen years in the past where there were many empty spots in the swap. As for the rain, I don't think I have been there once when it didn't rain, I've seen more rain than that there. Also it is hot...same as every year. Some years even hotter.

I try and get there before 7am, no lineup to speak of, they wave you in quick...I am always impressed how well they keep all the cars moving soo well. Those people at Carlisle are amazing. Here's my tip...instead of coming in on Route 11 get off at College St exit and drive the back way in. You'll thank me.

BTW the 50th Anniversary for the A12 cars was bigger than the previous ones in 2005, 2009, and 2014. I quickly sold out of all the A12 Anniversary Swag. Only if I had more inventory! People were telling me how much they were looking forward to the 55th!

I agree 100% well put.

I wanted a shirt but you guys were gone by Sunday.

As much as I hate to admit it, automotive interest and restoration is becoming an aging hobby. I have a friend that Dj's cruise nights and car shows; and has been doing so for the last 30 years. He has seen a marked decrease in the attendance over the last 5-7 years. The main core group is getting older and don't like to go out when it is hotter or later at night. The cruise nights in my area are starting earlier and ending earlier as many people don't like to drive home after dark. local swap meets in my area have seen a marked decrease in attendance over the last few years. With the advent of internet and ebay, searching for parts in also now just a click away.

I guess but did you ever think of how many more cruise nights and swap meets that are out there now? Around here there is a cruise night every night of the week within driving distance. In the 1980's and 90's I don't ever recall going to an organized cruise night...we use to just hang out at a burger place or random parking lot. Usually pretty well into the night. There were only a couple well spread out swap meets...now it seems like there are quite a few.

I see more and more older cars getting restored, more resto parts than I ever imagined being released...project cars selling for crazy prices...more than done cars were less than 20 years ago.

That overhead shot reminds me of last year when I took the family (first time for any of us) and remembered feeling like a kid in Willy Wonka’s factory soon to realize how overwhelming that place can be between the heat & the prices of parts that were on your top 10 mental wish list. Came home with a nice set of matching hub caps for my 72 that I really didn’t need but I tried to see most I could, it’s impossible to do in 1 day. I would definitely go again. I’m 20 min south of Boston. It was pretty packed when I was there. Blows away anything in my area.

So, is anybody here, who is able to edit photos, be able to show me where the C-body row?

Stan, I can't edit worth a dang.

But the C-Body Line is the center on the green field. Blow it up a smidge and you can read the classes on the map. I parked my Charger to the left of the Mopar tent in the orange right across from the C-Bodies.
