I find myself underwhelmed at the new mid-engine Corvette design as officially revealed by General Motors this evening locally.

Compared to the styling of the new Hellcat widebody Chargers and even the Challengers, these new Corvette's are a disappointment. To me, they are just a mess of cliche's and way too busy. And like the Silverado, the front end of this car is too tall to look racy. This attached Automobile magazine's summary seems to echo similar thoughts:

I believe Chrysler has better talent at least in the design studios. I am confident this new car will perform well especially at winding race tracks, but in real life traffic, it looks like a lot of other such cars that are not especially noteworthy, at least out here where they are a dime a dozen.................

I actually like the 2020 Camaro much better:

Just like Cadillac doesn't compete well in the luxury car class compared to its German rivals, this new Corvette doesn't seem likely to steal any Ferrari buyers either.

While the new 2020 Ferrari is in some ways similar, they seem to pull it off much better with more flowing lines and a more coherent design:

I loved my C5 'vert with 6 speed. Low, and with a wide rear end! lol Was a weekend toy for me.

Curious what/if the convertible will look like. Didn't like the C6, C7 was nice. But still liked the C5 convertibles best.

Can still get a nice C5 'vert in mid teens. I just don't have anymore room to put it, and the wife already gives me grief for my 'toys'.

The C8 looks like just another Porsche to me.

Esprit looks better than new Vette. I am really concerned for the health of GM fiscally. The company seems to be making bizarre and unappealing decisions. Oh well what the hell do I know as I am out of the target demographic. They know best. After all they were on the top of the list of "rear drive 2 door cars are dead, nobody wants them", of course 15 years later they can't give away a 4door Cruze. Anybody know how much that goofy tailgate option cost? Hope the closing of 5 plants saves them enough to pay back their bailout so they can go back to the well again later.

Not to mention the $100k price tag. The target demographic won't have anything left to spend on Viagra after that.

C8 is not a Corvette. It looks more like some kind of Asian sports car.

I was quite impressed about the desingn of new Silverados and Suburbans back in 2014 when they came but is Chevrolet really paying to the designers who designed 2018-2019 camaros, trucks etc.?

Are you implying they should do what Harley Davidson did? Change very little, and watch everything start crashing down from a flooded market? They innovated. They adapted. They couldn't squeeze anymore of the HP per LB out of the car with a front engine.

No, they just failed to make outstanding non-asian looking desingn.

As a mechanic for the last 50+ years, I really shouldn't say anything negative about GM.
They've consistently provided me a means to a decent income.
On any given week, six of my seven bays are typically occupied by their products.
