The 1965 Polara/Monaco/880 thread!!

Found one of the broadcast sheets for my Monaco's. Still haven't had a chance to sit down and decode it yet. Though have to admit, best Chrysler Broadcast sheet I've ever found (condition wise) anyway. Looks like it was stuck in a time capsule.

For the Canadian-built 1965 Dodge C bodies, and Canadian Plymouth C bodies, the base engine was the 225-cid "Leaning Tower of Power". And that included all sedans, hardtops, wagons and convertibles. The same held for 1966.

So, somewhere out there is a Canadian-built 6 cylinder 1965 Dodge Monaco convertible, hopefully for me. Also, the Canadian-built 1962-1966 slant six engine did not use the reduction gear starter. Chrysler Canada purchased Canadian Prestolite starters, basically the same units used before 1962.

Other engines for 1965 included the 318 poly V8, 383 with 4-bbl, and 413 with 4-bbl. 1965 was also the first year for the poly 318 V8 in Canada as Plymouth and Dodge used the poly 313 V8 from 1958-1964. The 413 was replaced by the 440 for 1966.

Yep, nice color. E color code correct? I believe I saw it on FB. And BYW welcome to the club!
Yes, paint is E code "Huron Blue Metallic". 318 poly with AT. Front bench seat, back up lights, AM push button radio, and heavy duty battery (if anybody knows what the heavy duty battery option for Canada in 1965 was, please let me know).

Love these cars....I have a 65 Canadian Polara 880 convert with 383 4BBL, AT, PS, PB, PW, Power seat, rear speaker, Mopar dealer air conditioning, fender skirts, sand beige with tan/bronze interior. Also 65 Custom 880 four door hardtop, 383 4BBL, AT, PS, PB, Auto-Pilot, tilt wheel, power windows, power seat, power door locks, AM-FM with rear speaker with reverberator, fender skirts, medium blue with blue interior, 35K orig miles.
I'll work on posting some photos.

Nice. Do you know if there an data base for # of units built for each body/type and year? For example, the 1965 Dodge Polara Convertible I just won at an auction. How many 1965 Dodge Polara convertibles were made? Any record of build numbers?
Doubt it very sincerely. There's numbers out there but as I recall they're more or less approximations - umpteen percent of total production type of thing.

For the 1965 Dodge convertibles, production for the U.S. consisted of :
Polara - (AD2L-27) - 2,661
Custom 880 - (AD2H-27) - 1,416
Total US - 4,077

C-body convertibles for the Canadian market were built in Canada for the years 1964 to 1969. Similarly C-body convertibles for the US market were built in the US for the years 1964 to 1969.

For Canada, total Polara 880 convertible came to (AD1/2H-27) 1,267. That figure also includes Canadian-built Monaco convertibles as the 1965 Canadian Monacos were series H, same as the Polara 880.

AD1- Six cylinder C body Dodge (225 slant six - Canada only)
AD2 - Eight cylinder C body Dodge (Base engine - 318 V8 in Canada with 383 V8 in the US. 318 V8 base engine on US Polara 318 sedans.)

Wow, I stand corrected. Thanks.......... Now, how many of those Polara convertibles were Polara 500's?? :poke:

Those are all Polara convertibles as the 500 was an accessory package - A325 - Polara 500 Sport Package. The package included bucket seats, short console, tachometer, deluxe wheel covers, padded instrument panel, and "Polara 500" nameplates. Available only on the Polara 2 door hardtop and convertible models.

The Polara 500 was an accessory package again in 1966 but became a series with the 1967 models. The 1962-1964 Polara 500 models were a separate series and the final Polara 500 in 1970 was a trim option on the Polara.

In Canada the Polara 500 was a trim option on the Polara convertible and hardtop in the latter half of the 1964 model year. The 1967-1969 Canadian Polara 500 was Dodge's version of the Fury II in 2 dr hardtop, 4 dr sedan and 2 and 3 seat wagons. The sporty Canadian Dodge was the Monaco (1965-66) and Monaco 500 (1967-69) in 2dr hardtop and convertible with Sport Fury seats. The 1970 Canadian Monaco 500 was basically a Dodge version of the 1970 Sport Fury (no S-23 or GT versions, though).

I did know they were an accessory package, my question was more facetious than anything but once again I learned new things - I didn't realize the 67's were their own model/series. Thank you for the illumination, Bill. :thankyou:
