As per the headline, I tried and failed several times so when this came up for sale I could not resist.

Only 2600 of both the Park Avenue and the Town Sedan were made in 1962, no figures available for ratio. These were a shorter car than the Deville by around a foot, this is still 215 inches. This Park Ave is a one Pennsylvania owner 38.5k mile car. The interior is almost like new with all extras available taken by the original owner, bar Cruise Control. The original invoice says he bought rear defrost package too, but can find no evidence of it ! Odd... Electric windows, inc vents ! Electric Seats, semi bucket option in leather, AC, power trunk and Soft Ray Tinted glass, Power locks and the Autronic Eye headlight dipping thing. Here in 62 I think you could order a heater and carpets Ha ha !

I have the sales invoice, instruction booklet and service book, might be called protecto plate? Has a little tag with engine number on door frame. Seems to have been stored off a dirt track road from the amount of stones and dirt I removed from the bottom of the bumpers. Was undercoated from new and its held up well. Rubber perished in quite a few places, bumpers need rechromed, but for 57 years old not too shabby ! Had a little paint here and there, but not all over. Engine bay grubby, but should look better when degreased. Original spare tyre still in trunk but damaged sidewall, no idea why they kept it and will be replaced by a non WW to save some cash.

I've got the shop manual on the way with some consumable items from Rock Auto, delivery and taxes for that was $130 with parts cost $90, so an expensive maintainance bill ! Its taking forever to get the new registration plates to allow me to drive it on the road here, very frustrating, but must be patient ! maybe in around 3 or 4 weeks.

Posting this up as had a few requests to keep in touch and post some pics.

Would still like an Imperial, but no room for 2 cars at the moment.

Been getting lots of help and advice on the Caddy forum where folk are as nice as they are on this one ! Was not easy getting this here, lots of hurdles, but think its worth it now.

Anyone who can offer advice and help with running it would be much appreciated.

Have a good day everyone !

What a beautiful car. Congratulations on your find. Such a great body style and color combination. Those fins look like they could cut you and the curved windshield as well as the great body lines leaves no doubt that this is a Cadillac. It is one of my favorite body styles. As for maintenance, go over all of the rubber parts as you would any old car. Maybe keep a set of distributor points and condenser on hand too. A shop manual is a great tool to have. Thanks for sharing the pics and have fun with that Caddy.

I had a '62 Sedan Deville in high school. Just so happens we are currently in New Smyrna Beach at a reunion reminiscing about high school days cruising the beach in that thing. Sold it for $200 to a set of 16 year old twin girls from Mount Dora. They came with their Dad and and a paper grocery bag full of change to buy it. That was 1978, same year I turned mopar putting $600 with that $200 and buying a '70 440/4 speed Super Bee.

Thank you for the replies, will take it somewhere nice/appropriate to photograph when I get the reg sorted. I'll get myself a 67, Imperial, New Yorker or 300 at somepoint in the future ! That year they made some beauties...

You already know what I think of it.:wideyed::thumbsup:

Seems like I remember Cadillac using "Series ___" designations, as Buick did, in addition to the model names? I wasn't really paying attention to Cadillacs, back then, as much as I did other brands (being in elementary school) and being interested more in "hot rods" and the factory hot rods/NASCAR racers of that era. BTAIM. I do remember something about "long deck" and "short deck" mentioned in relation to the model lines, though.

Always liked the looks of those cars. I'm sure you'll enjoy it just fine in Scotland. Where the smooth ride and easy handling will be appropriate.

Congrats and ENJOY!

Been driving through the Highlands once, if I remember correctly we had a VW Golf or Vauxhall Astra something that size.. My girlfriend was terrified when she realized that I always had my eyes closed when a Bus came by opposite :D These roads were so tight and you couldn't move far to the outside a there were walls of stone at the roadside :D Hope that Cadillac doesn't get hit

You aim for the gap and at the point of no return you close your eyes and hope for the best :D:D

The roads in northern Scotland and Ireland were built at a time when standart European cars were just tiny, like the VW Käfer ( bug/beetle). Modern cars just barely fit there next to each other.

Cars are smaller in Europe than USA always have been, roads and car parking spaces too ! The more rural roads have what's known as a passing place every so often and if you are closer to it then pull in and let the other vehicle pass.

This route, link below is having real trouble with drivers parking in them to take pictures and have food etc.

North Coast 500

Scotland is beautiful and even though I live in its biggest city I am only 40 mins away from the bonny bonny banks of Loch Lomond ( as the song goes) which is stunning ! We are spoiled with scenery, just not sunny weather

Great colour combination, the red leather is so nice, awesome car.

We are spoiled with scenery

Yes you are, plus Edinburgh for me is the most beautiful city I've ever seen. History at every corner and the fortress in the centre with that beautiful gardens around makes it look like straight out of a fairy tale.

Little update, finally got to drive her yesterday ! Was pooping myself at the beginning ! such a difference to a modern car, the size and the sitting on the left hand side !

I found lots of issues while waiting to drive it, and managed to sort the non op window wipers. Changed the plugs, but Caddy guys said ones that were in it were perfect condition, though old and I should put them back in ! so I did. I also changed the fuel filter, glass bowl thing. Gasket was goosed and new filter did not come with one, no surprise, so had to then hunt for replacement. Found that a cork one for tractor engines fitted and 59 guys said that is what they had ! Seems to seal ok.

Got oil filter and new oil lined up, plus flushing radiator and antfreeze to add. Temp gauge non op but discovered the cable was not connected, wish it was all that simple.

Air filter holder was rough so painted that up, put new filter in and got new seal for underneath.

Biggest issue is the brakes, read up lots of stuff about how to check booster etc. Tried the pump them to remove vacuum, then while pressing brake gently start engine. Pedal drops a bit so I think that means booster fine? No hissing anywhere and pipes in reasonable nick. Tried blowing up the pipe from manifold end and could not open valve so think its ok too !

Brakes are not very gradual slight feel then goes hard quite quick. Maybe thats how old cars are ?

Engine idles nice, gear change hard to tell its happened and car is very fast for such a huge size.

Much more to do and been reading about mopar owners in UK and they have lots of tips on american cars in general while in UK. Mopar owners all over seem a friendly bunch :)

UK MOPARS

More pics when I get her some place nice to take them.

I understand its not mopar, but thought you may like a few pics from a trip yesterday to a country house where we took a few pics, about 5 miles away from where I live. Car has now had a "service" as we say, fluid changes and have most things operational now. Little niggles here and there to iron out but cold weather approaching so might be spring before anything else gets done. Still hoping to pick up a cheap 60's new yorker/imperial to use as an everyday car and keeping my eyes peeled.

Hope Kevin enjoyed his trip to Scotland from Canada...
