Passenger mirror?

Unlike today with multiple lane freeways, and federally mandated safety requirements, pasenger side mirrors were an option.
To be specific, 1968 the right side mirror cost 7.95! People spent money on more important things like a radio (almost a hundred bux in 68 money!) .
Today if you find a used right side mirror for a 65-68 slab it can fetch almost as much as a repop depending on condition. Up to 125.00!
In the U.S. each state has their own law regarding mirrors.
In Canada, if it came with one it is required.
In the UK. Cars built after August 1st 1978 required passenger mirrors.
Domestic car manufacturers started making cars with both mirrors in the 80's as standard equipment.

Joseph, the big wide center rear view mirror is what i use to change lanes. That and shoulder check.
I do have a passenger mirror but it is useless. But it sure does look purdy on the door, lol

A new member recently said "I've looked at the FSM and I kinda understand x and y, but not too sure about z. Can you school me?" Members here couldn't WAIT to provide good answers, and somebody offered a part for free to help out. Kumbaya.

I often will post the link to information, like the FSM, parts manual or even, like I did here, sales info. My efforts are to help the person along and give them the ability to learn more and sometimes even something more important and that's to know what's good advice and what isn't. Yes, that is kind of saying "go look it up", but it's also giving them another tool in their arsenal to use.

Well said, well done.

And I'll conclude with this: The OP is NOT a newbie or a PITA, he's a knowledgeable member here, asks good questions, and appreciates (and gives) good advice. My :poke:at him was strictly about the "what car" thing.

So be it; I took it as nit-picking. My apologies as that was not your intention.

As for passenger side mirrors, I put them on all my cars if they don't have one. Why? My Dad was a truck-driver: that mirror was important!! I've been using them since I got my licence at 16.

The problem is the Gremlin! I cannot find a mirror pair where the passenger side is tall enough to me useful. The one that is on it now is cosmetic only; you cannot see out of it. It's the second pair I have tried. (I will not mis-match mirrors.) I am about to buy Corvette Mirrors as they have very long stalks. Such should work on that car!

I put dual mirrors on my '70 Challenger. Got a matched set of Chrome Mirrors from a local shop. Worked great!

But one day, while giving a guy a ride, I looked right... and all I saw was the guy's head! I asked if he had moved my mirror? He said yes, and told me he couldn't see anything out of it. I told him, "It's not for you!!!"

No one in his family ever used the passenger side mirror, so he always adjusted it so that he could see. I told him to never touch my mirror again!

Quite honestly, I WAS nit-picking. Not identifying your car/motorcycle/powerboat is a pet-peeve of mine because it's so easy for a member to make the problem go away, making life easier for all members in the line of communication. After all, if someone is giving me advice, I'd kinda like to know that THEY own. You should see the corvetteforum and the Honda RC51 forms. You'd think there was precisely ONE model of each! :BangHead:

But no shade was intended to be thrown at the OP for anything other that my own nit-picking weakness.

Loved your Challenger mirror story. I had a GF that did the same thing in my Cuda.....but that was about 22 GFs ago. :wideyed:

Oooo, an honest man!!! Ha!!

I've had one wife for 36 years.

Hey man did you ever find mirrors for that gremlin ? I was re laughing at all the back and forth and just wondered what you ever came up with. I figure the same off my old javelin might work. They were like ebody mirrors but with a real bend in the arm because of the mounting surface. Here’s some pics off the net of what I’m looking at. They sit well up over the elbow holder.

No, have not done any more searching lately. But these would work! I'll check into them. Thanks!
