South African C-Body

Hi guys,I've learned a lot. It seems my car is a mix of Monaco and Polara. I'll post a pic of the dash soon. I have a square speedo, with a smaller square clock to the right of it. Ammeter, temp guage and fuel guage sit above the square speedo, and all the switches are to the right of the instruments. Nothing like the ribbon speedo I've seen in the American Polara pics. The e-brake is not foot operated, but looks exactly like my 69 Valiant's, under the dash.The blue cable is indeed the earth cable to the block, and the long wire leading to the coil is linked to a switch under the dash (security feature I installed...) The wiring still needs a lot of work, and the paint needs to be sorted, as the original owner's grandson 'fixed' some spots, which he should rather have not attempted. I'm second owner of the car, but it seems that the original owners 'rednecked' some repairs over the years.Who knew that you could make new flanges for the transmission cooler lines using a hacksaw and a big screwdriver...

These cars are pretty rare over here, as only 353 '69 models were sold, with the number steadily declining, with only 8 sold in '74 when production stopped.

This photo was taken before I took delivery of the car. The carpets were removed, as mould started growing on them, from standing in a shaded shed for too long.

Looks like I was right, it is the dash from the Australian Dodge Phoenix (Plymouth Fury). Heres a pic of the dash from a 70 Dodge Phoenix 400 (probably the same as the 69).

Do you have any other production numbers for any South African Mopars? How about pics of other South African Mopars. I know that some South African Valiants in the late 60's were basically right hand drive versions of American Valiants, and others were right hand drive versions of American Darts. Can you post a pic of your 69 Valiant? Being into Barracudas, I would be very interested in South African Barracuda production numbers (67,68,69). I believe that by the early 70's, most South African Mopars were rebadged Australian Mopars.
Are there any car shows or cruise ins that you attend with your car?

Thanks for the info once again.
All our Valiants were basically A body cars, and 99% of them were fitted with a slant 6 and 727 combo. We never got the Ebodies here, and neither did we get any B body Chargers, very sad fact. The 'Charger' we had here was basically a Demon / Duster shell (year model decided the tail lights) with a 70 Swinger front clip.
There are a handful of B body Chargers around though, but none of them sell for under R800,000 ($70-80,000)
A friend has a 73 Charger with a 400ci and 727, which is considered extremely rare here.

There is a list under each model, which will tell you the specs and numbers sold.
From about 73, all our Valiants were Aussie cars, and still we mostly got the slant 6. I have heard rumours of one dealers who fitted 383 motors to a handful of Chargers (Dusters) he sold in the early 70's
We have a big American car and hotrod following, and we frequently go on cruises and car shows. Incidentally, there is one this coming Saturday, and a cruise on the 16th of June.
 
Yeah this is interesting, thanks for the extra pics and info.
 
The flamethrowers were declared illegal quite a few years ago.
I do however work in the private security field over here. We provide assistence to the local police in high crime residential areas, and provide security officers to enclosed residential estates.
Anyone out there have the specs or measurements for a Persuit style nudge bar perhaps? ;-)

Thanks for the link. It was cool to see pics of Mopars in South Africa. I couldn't find a page with specs and production figures though. Do you need to be a club member to see that info?
 
Jim, I'm not sure.

I'll try download the data sheets during the day, and will upload them under the tech page. That will give you build numbers, as well as the specifications. (You'll see how badly we've been cheated out of V8's here...)
