Just had Magnum 500 wheels mounted on the '68 300. There have been more than several posts on here questioning what size to use. In '68 you either had 14 X 51/2 inch wheels with drum brakes or 15 X 6 inch wheels with disc brakes. I know some have discussed going taller and wider. I chose 15 X 6 wheels to stay with a size that was offered at the time, and to keep the stance/wheel well set back as would have been from the factory.

Car looks great with those wheels. Great choice. I’ve always liked them.

Now the bad news. There were no 15” chrome magnum 500 wheels offered by Chrysler.

I know...only 14", I was going for factory size so it would sit properly. I don't care for the '15 inch disc wheel cover.

They look nice and also look period correct. Good choice. Is someone reproducing those wheels?

I knew about summit. I was hoping someone had found a cheaper source.

Summit sells Wheel Vintiques wheels. Wheel Vintiques is the mfg of many OEM repro wheels. They even sell them direct. Used to be some "car show discounts", as at Mopar Nats, if you purchased them there and had them shipped. BTAIM.

What backspacing on the 15x6 wheels? Just curious. What tires did you use?

Car looks great with those wheels on it. I didn't like the 15" disc brake wheel covers that year, either.

The back spacing is 4", the tires are P235/75R15, Cooper Trendsetter.

I would like to put them on my 65 Sport Fury but does anyone know if they the 14" will fit over disc brakes?

If they are stock disc brakes...nope. As mentioned before 14s with drum, 15s with discs.

I'm a purist with wheels, but still think these look nice, and also "correct." OK, so 15" Magnums weren't available from Chrysler in '68, but it still works just fine on the car, and looks appropriate on them as well. 15 X 6 definitely keeps the right stance. Beautiful 300 convertible!

I have 14" (stock) rims on now with disc brakes. My question is because of inside dimensions, the rim, will they fit over the disc brakes. Not all rims are created equal or measure the same inside even if they are i.e. 14".

I'm ready to order new Magnums for my 68 Charger RT and I too want the stock appearance. Original Magnums were 14"x5 1/2". I've been thinking about the 15"x6" wheels. I had tried the 14"x7" years ago and they didn't fit on the front (though I believe the 14"x6" will fit). I know the 15"x6" will fit but I have been wondering what back spacing I needed since the 5 1/2" width is not available. Sounds like the 4" back spacing would be correct for me too, but I'm not sure I would go with the same size tires on my Charger. Since I'll be going with Diamondback red line radial BF Goodrich T/A radials, I'll be looking at 70 series tires.
And by the way, I love your 68 300 vert. I keep getting drawn to those when ever I run across them on Craigslist.

Right. but with 14 inch tires going away like the Dodo Bird it is nice to run 15 inch and still have a correct looking car..

I got my Magnum 500s from American/Discount Tires. And the price was good. I don't know, they may be a repop but they seem to be a quality product.

At the Mopar Nationals last Friday I saw Year One was displaying a set of aluminum wheels that looked almost exactly like the American Racing VN501s I have on my Sport Fury. They are painted with the same black center as a Magnum 500 but they did not have the American Racing logo cast in. I am very happy with my wheels and am not in the market for any others so I did not bother to ask any of the guys working the display about the wheels. It is possible they are even made by the same place that makes the VN501s as they looked identical to me, just minus the American Racing logo as previously mentioned.
