How do i remove the oil pan on a 1968 New yorker

Hi, I'm new here. I was just wondering what the best way to remove the oil pan on a 1968 New Yorker?

I know someone will come on here and tell you. Never done it so I cannot.

Engine and exhaust set up?

Drain engine oil.
Undo motor mounts.
Undo stwering linkage fron idler arm and pitman arm.
Jack up motor.
Remove oil pan

Do you need to jack up a big block to get the pan out?

I thought that it might just squeak out once the center link is out of the way.

May depend on single or dual exhaust? Dual = no jacking, single = engine has to go up a bit.

As cbarge says, drop the steering linkage.
Drop the Y pipe if you have single exhaust.
Remove trans inspection plate.
You don't have to raise the engine. It's tight getting the bolts out at the cross member but it can be done.

Thanks, i was hoping there may be a trick, but looks like the y pipe and steering linkage it is. Hate to go at those exhaust studs. Maybe i'll wait till i get a dual exhaust and do it all at one.

Mine came off pretty easily at the flanges after a good PB soaking. .. my car is from TX though so. Popping one at the flange isn't as bad as busting one off in the head, either way.

I just removed the exhaust from a 2000 Chevy S 10; a lot newer than your '68 C Body. I had one bolt break. Be careful and good luck.

It might be safer cutting the exhust pipes then re weld them. Breaking a manifold stud will suck.

The nut and bolts at the exhaust flanges dont worry about them.
Not like a chebbie.
On mopars I like the fact you can break them off or torch them off and use new hardware.

I lined the area around the bolts in aluminum foil and torched them off in just a few minutes...hope you dont break yours though.

Grill is ok, small bent on the driver fender, motor mounts did not break so i'm not sure how the fan hit the radiator. I'll have to give it a good going over tomorrow. I will post a photo of the car later. Not a bad a bad looking car. What color is yours?

Awe for petesake I think it is called, Frost Green. Previously I had one that was Mist Turquoise Metallic, I liked this color better.
